Prize of the Pole- Doc World (World Channel:worldchannel.org)
Colonialism has been on my mind more heavily as of late, especially American Colonialism. Since my recent visit to Vietnam I view American colonialism very differently. What are the impacts of this immense part of history, especially the impacts that breach long lines of generations over hundreds of years? With the 4th of July being yesterday, it is especially interesting to dig into the lesser known parts of American history, specifically the darker parts of our history that many choose to ignore in part because of the pain it brings.
Prize of the Pole is a very specific and personal journey. Though not technically a story of colonialism, it brings light to the larger attitudes and powers that enabled colonialism to change the face of human kind. It shows one story of millions. The first man to reach the North Pole, Robert Peary changed the course of generations with his dream and aspiration to be the first to the North Pole. Dark truths and painful memories abound in this journey of one man trying to uncover the past, while trying to create a path for his future. I will say that you need to be prepared to cry and face a reality that is hard to swallow. Above is the trailer. The full documentary can be found at:

I hope you had a contemplative 4th, especially with where our country stands now concerning “others”.
