I did! It’s certainly a more … challenging film in ways that Drive wasn’t, and I think people were expecting a Drive-type film, ESPECIALLY with Gosling on board. I also think a lot of people based their expectations on OGF based solely on Drive, having not seen films like Valhalla Rising (which gives a much better insight into what OGF was going to be than Drive does). I think the cinematography is stunning, the acting is solid, and the soundtrack is good. I just wrote a thematic analysis paper on it for my Video Analysis class and that entailed watching the film carefully (for a second time) and taking a lot of notes, so I’m certainly pretty interested in it now and have a firmer grasp on its themes/motifs/ideas better than just one viewing (which most people base their reviews on). It’s absolutely not for everyone, but I think it’s stunning in its own regard and I’m excited to keep viewing it and developing ideas about it.
