Keeping pets is one of people’s hobbies. People have reasons why they keeping pets in their house, although the pet(s) would give some advantages and disadvantages. And also, they have their own reasons why they choose the kind of pet(s) to they kept. Usually, dogs and cats are the most kinds of animals that people chosen. In this text, it would give informations about keeping cat. As it said, keeping pets give some pro and contra, including keeping cats.

A study from the University of Minnesota found owning cat can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. People those without cats were between 30 and 40 percent more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than cat owners. Besides, just stroking a cat is calming and lowers blood pressure. Scientists from State University of New York at Buffalo said that having a cat helped to relieve stress and anxiety, which is known to help protect against heart disease by lowering blood pressure and reducing the heart rate. The study looked at 4,435 adults aged between 30 and 75, about half of whom owned a cat. The findings, presented at a stroke conference in America, showed that 3.4 per cent of the cat owners died from a heart attack over 10 years. Among the group who had never owned a cat the rate was 5.8 per cent.

On the other hand, cats are known as ‘carrier’ of Toxoplasma Gondii. Toxoplasma Gondii is parasitic protozoan that causes the disease toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is known to affect nearly all warm-blooded animals and humans, but cats are the primary living host. Cat owner could this bacteria from cat’s litter because this bacteria live in cat’s digestive. It can effecting infertility for women. Furthermore, T. Gondii maybe result in miscarriage or birth of baby with physical defect for pregnant women. But both of those would happened if the litter box cleaned rarely. In addition, cats also maybe infect in rabies with same symptoms like dogs.

Well, as a result of this controversy, keeping cats can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, and relieve stress and anxiety. On the contrary, keeping cats maybe effect the owner got toxoplasmosis and rabies if they didn’t protect the cleanliness and health of their cats well.
