Hey America: Islamophobia is Wrong
So, a few days ago, I posted a huge thing on Facebook about some stuff that was bothering me about other Christians, and the reactions were mostly positive.
Then some weird anti-Islamic posts started creeping up. This baffles me. The current climate seems to be creeping toward people thinking that Islam is just a fundamentally evil religion. That's not true and I'm done just standing by and letting people say that.
The following is one such post and my reaction.
Guy I Went To High School With: ...let us acknowledge the obvious: there is a direct link between the doctrine of Islam and Muslim violence. Acknowledging this might be especially taboo among political liberals. While liberals are leery of religious fundamentalism in general, they consistently imagine that all religions at their core teach the same thing and teach it equally well. This is one of the many delusions born of political correctness.
Me: Look Man, I don't want to fight, so lets just for the sake of argument say that every muslim person is evil. All 100% of them. I would rather die by striving for peace and understanding with them than live as someone who hates them and thinks it's okay to persecute them and go to war and kill them.Just because someone hates you, doesn't mean that it's okay for you to hate them back. That's part of what being a Christian is supposed to mean. Now lets say for the sake of argument that 99% of muslims are evil. Is it still okay to go to war and kill them even if you know that 1% of them are good and are going to die anyway? I don't. An innocent life is an innocent life. All we can do is try for peace. There are muslim women. There are muslim children. I'm positive (because I know some of them) that there are good muslims that do not agree with the evil happening over there. I think those muslims are doing the same thing I'm doing as a Christian: waiting for the older guard to fade away so our new ideas can grow.
