Ghosts - Time Swap AU
What it says on the tin. All the ghosts swap the time period they died in.
(TW: Death, suicide, aids, slavery, religious trauma, drug use)
Sasappis - Death Period: 1000s/Precolonial; Since we're not turning any o the other characters into vikings, I kinda had to make Sas our earliest death. This also means he is almost completely the same personality-wise.
Nigel Chessum - Death Period: early 1500s; Nigel and Isaac are not from the same era in this au sadly. Nigel was an English biologist who sought to study the flora and fauna of the Americas. Unfortunately he did not realize he was allergic to bees.
"Crash" - Death Period: 1690s; Crash is our puritan in this au. Not a very good one mind you, he got accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. That's not how he died though, he lost his head while escaping. His full name is "Praise-God-Lest-You-Crash-Down-To-Hell"
Alberta Haynes - Death Period: 1772; Alberta had escaped slavery, and was under an assumed name (which she preferred since she gave it to herself) when she died. She was dressed in fancy party clothes and a wig, so she lied that she was a singer when the other ghosts found her, which was made easy by the fact that she had a beautiful voice. She died of a mixture of exhaustion from all the running she had been doing, as well as eating poisonous food whilst running. Yes her new era being the colonial/georgian era is a reference to Kitty in the BBC version.
Pete Martin - Death Period: 1776; His name had been anglicized by the time he was born. He was a captain in the army, who got shot on accident by one of his soldiers whilst giving a demonstration. Because he died with a musket ball in his throat he found it very hard to talk as a ghost for a while until he managed to get it out, and now he keeps it in his pocket. (The first ghost he saw after his death was Alberta, yes it was love at first sight for him)
Thorfinn Arneson - Death Period: Early 1890s; Thorfinn here was a Norwegian immigrant who sought to make money to help his family back home. He worked at Woodstone Manor as both a lumberjack and carpenter. He died the same way he did in the original show, getting struck by lightning. At least he died with his axe.
Stephanie "Fanny" Cole - Death Period: Late 1890s; Stephanie's debut was stolen from her by a Woodstone girl who debuted on the same day. In a fit of rage she burst into the party and publicly accused and decried her. The embarrassment sent her running out, where she was murdered by an escaped psych ward patient. Since then she has sworn to make sure any Woodstone in the manor will suffer, which hasn't worked since she doesn't know her Ghost Power. Her last name is a reference to Fanny from the BBC show.
Trevor Lefkowitz - Death Period: January 1st, 1929; Trevor was a stockbroker attending a party at Woodstone mansion, and died much the same way, naked from the waist down with too many drugs in his system. He often jokes that he died at just the right time cause things were NOT going to go well for him that year.
Henrietta Woodstone - Death Period: 1955; Because Hetty happens later in the timeline she is now Samantha's direct great grandmother. Her son Thomas had at least Sam's mom and David Woodstone in the late fifties/sixties ish and Sam was born in the 90s. Because Samantha is closer in time to Hetty, she knows that she committed suicide, something that Hetty has her swear secrecy to. Her power in this au is the ability to be heard over telephones.
"Patience" - Death Period: 1960s; Patience was pulled into Bruce's cult after her husband and son died. She was Christened "Patience" there, but she eventually left for an even more dangerous cult. She wandered onto Woodstone's property in a fit of religious ecstasy, whipping herself, and ended up bleeding to death on the property. She's incredibly paranoid and still wholeheartedly believes in her former cult's practices, but being around Susan makes her feel safe. When she makes blood appear on the walls, it appears in the shape of her scars.
Isaac Higgintoot - Death Period: early 1980s; Isaac died of AIDs, let's just start off with that. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, an amateur philosopher, and wannabe politician, who was considering quitting it all to go into paleontology when he received his diagnosis. Not wanting his wife to find out he left and at the worst of his illness he stayed with Thomas (who was in the closet) he died there, but Beatrice did track him down and change him into some better clothes to make sure he died with dignity (it was too late for him).
Susan Montero - Death Period: 1990s; Susan still died on the property via bear attack, only she wasn't on weed or shrooms, it was heroin, and she wasn't a hippie, she was a mix of grunge and riot grrrl in her aesthetic/attitude. She's not outwardly sweet like Flower is, she's a borderline anarchist hasn't felt the need to pretend in years. She graduated from law school, and was on scholarship money playing basketball. Most of the ghosts don't know what to make of her, she spends most of her time with Thorfinn and Patience.
