On the long winter nights when the heater had long run cold, Hyunjin was always warm.
On the days when Hyunjin had been made to walk home in the rain, he was still warm.
Even on the days when Hyunjin had been torn in half by his emotions, he was warm.
﹌﹌﹌
When you had first met him, it was his loud, boisterous laugh that was the reason.
He had been laughing at something stupid with his friends (and if you were being completely honest, they were being annoying) when he had managed to walk right through your freshly finished art project.
It got messy, literally, he had just stepped on fresh paint in his new white shoes that he didn’t shut up about getting for a week straight.
“oh my god” you exhaled quickly through your nose and squeezed your eyes shut, not interested in knowing the damage done to the project you had spent weeks on.
But when hot, salty tears ran down your face you began to stand up.
Acting solely on your emotions alone you began to yell at the man, the quite attractive one, who had just stepped his big foot in the middle of your project.
“this thing is due in three days, do you hear me? three days. I spent over a hundred hours on this, how will I get anything remotely up to this standard in three days. You know what, this is your fault and you’re gonna help me fix it” you seethed with anger, crossing your arms and walking out of the art room.
﹌﹌﹌
That’s how you ended up, hand touching hand, working on an art project in your house near midnight.
“You’re so cold, are you always this cold?”
“maybe it’s my cold heart” you bickered
“yeah probably” the man across from you mumbled back before flitting his eyes across the artwork.
“I think we’re done” his voice sounded sweet like honey, excited and a little tired. Not to mention annoying at this point.
“I think we just might be, let me add a few things and it’ll be ready to hand in” You gazed at the boy in front of you, you hadn’t really taken in his appearance since youse had met because well, you had been too mad to give him any positive attention at all to tell the honest truth.
You noticed things you hadn’t before, a small mole stamped under one of his big doe eyes, fluffy cheeks taking over his face and a mess of brown hair topping it all off. He was quite pretty. You realised, he didn’t seem all that real.
And he thought of you in the exact same way.
﹌﹌﹌
A week later you had been a part of that group, laughing distractedly through the art room but not distracted enough to step in someone’s major work.
The whole friend group realised you had the hots for each other but the only one who pointed it out was Felix.
Lee Felix, the one and only, with curly soft hair and a face splattered in freckles, he might of been the cutest in the group itself (you disagreed because it was definitely Hyunjin).
He wasn’t very discreet in how he teased the pair of you and it always made youse turn into a pair of blushing, in denial, messes. The shy smiles you gave to each other while blush creeped up your neck only proved to the group your feelings for each other.
﹌﹌﹌
The next time you saw Hyunjin was the day later, his warm fingers burning into your cold skin on your wrist as he attempted to get your attention while you moved fluidly through the packed corridors.
When you turned to face him, a light smile was rested on his face and the grip on your wrist hadn’t loosened.
“You’re still cold” he commented and you flushed
“It’s winter, Hyunjin” you reminded, he shrugged.
“We have class together now” You realised you did have class together and you slowed your pace to fall into step with his. His soft grasp fell from your skin and cold immediately replaced it, you were always cold.
“I suppose we do” you mumbled
Youse filed into the lecture room and a heavy silence took the place of any coldness- and any warmth.
﹌﹌﹌
The last time you saw Hyunjin was a slightly colder than usual winter morning, his cheery voice biting through your annoyed aura and his cheesy smile blocking your view of anything else.
“Hyunjin, move” you whined as you finally brought yourself to look at him.
“Give me attention” he whined back. You found it adorable.
“What do you want” you replied playfully, a smile fighting its way into your face (You simply can’t be in a bad mood around the boy).
“Dance with me” the three words left him easily but you shocked you.
“Hyunjin what, no, I can’t dance” you exclaimed
“Sure you can” he took a hesitant step toward you and brought warm fingers to wrap around your hands, pulling your bodies together.
You gasped at the sudden contact and tensed up, only calming when he began to sway lightly. You brought your hands around his waist, swaying with him.
“You’re so warm” you melted into him.
“You’re still cold” he chuckled.
﹌﹌﹌
That’s how you ended up, leaving kisses on hyunjins face as he giggled wildly, a warmth you’d never be able to describe radiating from him.
He caught your face in his hands and returned the shower of kisses before meeting your lips in a final, slow kiss.
“I love you”
“I love you too”
In your happiest moments you were surrounded by your own personal warmth, Hwang Hyunjin.
