HP fanfic rant Post, you have been warned (read below the cut):
A thought just hit me. Why do we just accept that AU!Muggle means that there is no magic?
Like make sense muggle means non-magical, but to be non anything there has to be something. To be non-magical, there has to be magical, and for there to be magical in fics (for some reason), it has to be non-Muggle AU, except that isn't an AU that's HP's known Universe.
So, AU!Muggle means no AU, just focused on muggles. But most of the time Canonically Magical become Muggles so it is AU!Muggle. And that means that it is not HP's universe but an AU.
So most AU!Muggle fics are... well, AU!Muggle.
Except that for the word Muggle to exist, there has to be magical folk bc Magical folk call Muggles... Muggles. And for there to be magical people, it simply goes back to HP's known reality. Except that some characters are non-magical as compared to being magical. So it's an AU!someCharactersAreMuggles or AU!MainCharactersAreMuggles (Lets say AU!MainChM)
Except AU!MainChM doesn't male sense bc if main characters are muggles it's not magical at all, esp considering side characters usually don't do magic either.
So, to say it has magic doesn't make sense. But if there's no magic it's AU!Muggle.
So it goes full circle and so I need my brain sorted and ask @lostwriter--xx3 why my brain works like this (is it a side effect of being a ravenclaw?)
