I will stand by this till death takes me apart.
The sheer fact that The Problematic Prince might actually have been a masterpiece and a wonderfully done case study of a realistic patriarchal Institution, the underlying misogyny of society, and a woman's true, genuine struggles to try to escape this web, but instead we're stuck with it being a shitty 'romance'- I'm sorry, NOT ROMANCE, I am not calling it that. Its all because the the author Sochel, loves her 'male leads' as irredeemable and disgusting as possible.
Erna is genuinely such a beautiful character, her descent into despair is so realistically done, the crushing weight of her institutional responsibilities and her emotionally abusive, yes, abusive husband, all pull her so down in the depths of absolute misery.
She is a victim of abuse. At the hands of her father. At the hands of her husband. And most importantly, at the hands of society. Yet, we see her plight being undermined by the narrative itself. It's despicable, just because the author has some weird kinks.
I have so, SO MANY, more pointers for this, but man I'm just pissed off rn. Nor do I have the energy to type because two nights of no sleep can really do a number on you.
But good god do I hate wasted potential.
(Also my English is like, fucked FUCKED, so-)
I'm going to actually write a full ass essay on this when i get a break from school. I simply HAVE to.
