Now that the celebrations are over, let me ask as an “indigenous” person.~ * How did the term indigenous come about and it’s in relation or in contrast/comparison to what or whose culture/s or which peoples? Are there non-indigenous peoples, really?~ * On this day, are we the indigenous people’s celebrating ourselves? Is there such a platform where we can celebrate ourselves fully, without judgment, ridicule or being ostracized?~ * Can the indigenous peoples celebrate themselves by demanding their lands backs, by installing their languages and customs as mediums of learning and institutions of governance?~ * Short of this and all that constitutes a free people, aren’t all other seemingly generous gestures, various forms of tokenism?~ * * I’m I alone in wondering about these issues? It is well~❤️~ * * I tried to resist academia lingo, hoping to hear from anyone who can offer a thought and an opinion on this matter~ * * #indigenousday #problematiccelebration #tokenism #superficial #inclusion #onepeople #differentcolors #differentnations #reflectivepractice #unitednations #commonwealth #commonwealthofnations #firstnations #firstpeoples #natives #nativeAmericans #americanindians #kikuyu #kikuyuwoman #kikuyupeople #africanpeople #africanancestry #outofAfrica #bantu #sanpeople #originofmankind #african #africanculture #indiancultures #asianculture (at Our Beautiful Planet) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1BbtltnwhM/?igshid=l3cumqok5xj6
