Spatial Composition Development: Further testing of mirror paint

After applying a second coat of the paint, the overall shine and reflection still wasn’t a quality that I would like. To achieve my desired outcome I believe purchasing a pre-made large mirror ball is my best option. 

The glass ball shattered soon after,  I didn’t have the chance to paint on a QR code. 

Here is possible option for purchasing a more durable and effective mirror sphere.

Draft Photoshop Rendering: Mirror Ball with QR in Z Block

Little versions of the large mirror balls  would be scattered around the QUT campus near Z block. The all have QR code printed onto the mirror surface. This code will lead them to an Instagram that has filtered images of the environment in which the project takes place. They will be unfiltered images taken by someone anonymous. Anyone could end up on the feed. It will capture the everyday mundane, blasé, joyful, dejected moods of daily life. It is a behind the scenes page, a contrast to the highly curated idealised common Instagram feeds. It is an honest mirror to society. 

The work is subject to privacy issues.

Spatial Composition Development: Glass Mirror Ball Trial with pre-existing object

Here is a trial of the Rust-oleum Mirror Effect spray paint.

My first patch trial worked, however, when spraying the entire ball, the mirror effect wasn’t overly successful.

I am going to try to find other balls similar to this to trial the technique again.

Spatial Composition Development: Trailing  and Experimentation of Spheres

Pre-existing Christmas decoration, I would like to somehow re-create this in a greater size. 

I trailed painting a medicine ball (for scale), and think that a possibility might be to create a silicon mold of this ball and then spray paint it. 

I would like to have these scattered in all different locations around the university. 

One idea is to somehow recreate them using perspex or a clear material that I will then add text to using the sand blower.

Spatial Composition Development:  Sand Blown Perspex

Experimentation of how I will add text to the perspex. 

Here I have used stencil stickers and the sand blower. The block is purely there to support the perspex. 

I think this technique is quite effective and would like to try it on the materials listed below once purchased. 

Purchase this in a few different colours 

Before undergoing trials on the perspex, I can print out the text onto transparency sheets to trial different text and layouts at a lower cost
