Despite it all, Kimi had thought that one day he and Ollie might become something more, maybe even mates, but the pup changes things.

Kimi loves Ollie, but he already loves his unborn baby more than anything in the whole world. They come first.

And besides, it's better for Ollie and his career if he doesn't know.

He's handling it.

Initially, Kimi had worried about the pup with the g-forces, but he reminded himself that Micheal Schumacher raced pregnant twice, and Kimi has met Mick and he seems mostly fine.

Still, Kimi finds himself cautious as he drives. His rookie year, last year, he was reckless. Kimi has always been reckless. That isn't the word he would use, but it's the one everyone else uses, so. The thing is, Kimi wants to win, more than he wants his life or the approval of the world.

But in January Kimi is going to be a father. It is no longer only his life that he's risking every time he dances on the edge of a corner.

So he drives FP1 in Spain with caution, and thankfully no one seems to notice that Kimi isn't quite throwing the car around the track like usual.

Everyone is always saying that Kimi does a little bit too much. Hopefully everyone will just think that he's finally taken their advice to heart and calmed down.

Maybe the old adage is true. A second lost for every pup.

The weekend continues, and Kimi qualifies in P4. George is on pole.

Bono is looking at him strangely as they debrief, but he doesn't approach or confront Kimi, so it's fine. It's fine. Kimi is fine, and the pup is fine, so it's all fine.

That night, Kimi lays awake in the dark, thinking of names. He can't risk a lot of doctor's visits given his schedule and how unsafe it is to be an unmated pregnant omega, so he won't find out the sex until the baby is born. Kimi will need two names, then.

All his life he has dreamed of a pup, so he's thought of quite a lot of names. Kimi doesn't want to name them after anyone, it's too much of a burden for a child to carry. Kimi wants something that has a common nickname, so that they can be known to the world by it, and their full name by family. Kimi quite likes becoming Andrea at home, and he wants that option for the child.

Matteo, for if they are a boy. Teo for the world, Matteo for family. Matteo, for Kimi, because he will probably be the pup's only close family. And maybe Giovanna, for a girl, Vanna for the world.

Kimi curls around his stomach, where his pup grows steadily, and whispers the names like a prayer, a chant. Giovanna, Matteo. Matteo, Giovanna. His pup. His baby. His world.

He falls asleep like that, and dreams of a baby's laughter, clear and bright. Dreams of Ollie, holding their child, smiling.

Though the Fifteenth has long since abandoned its old orders, there are nevertheless a great many legionaries who find comfort in forgotten familiarities. Though there no longer are any arbiters to uphold the laws of slaughtered Prospero, it remains a great taboo to raise one’s voice or weapon before a Khenetai consort.

Sometimes, it is as if nothing has changed in ten thousand years. Dark seers come to consult their lord, and I am let to lounge about and entertain as I see fit, and all is well for that short, fleeting moment in time. Those are the golden memories of Tizca, given second life by my antics. We remember, and we return.

I am the gatekeeper who lets slip that which is dead for one last dance among the living.

For Pride Month this June, we’re celebrating films from the 21st century helmed by LGBTQ+ filmmakers as well as films from this century that are centered around the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. Here are this past week’s selections:

🌈 Monster (Patty Jenkins, 2003): Instead of treating Aileen Wuornos as a case study, director and star afford her the right to be a person who loved and lost, bore and inflicted brutality. In their hands, Wuornos’ story isn't so much ripped from headlines as wrenched from oblivion.

🌈 Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016): With moviemaking as intimate as a whisper and as imposing as waves pounding the sand, Jenkins unfolds one man’s story and invites us to witness his entire world. He didn’t set out to film a milestone in Black queer male representation. But he did.

🌈 Prodigal Sons (Kimberly Reed, 2008): With enormous fortitude, Reed strives to mend the gulfs that appear unbreachable—between a woman and her mentally ill brother, past and present selves, the homes we choose and the homes we never really leave—in her unflinching family portrait.

🌈 The Royal Road (Jenni Olson, 2015): Unlike the land, the heart of a lover cannot be conquered and colonized. Across haunting, deserted, 16mm California vistas, Olson ruefully muses on Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, American expansion, unavailable women, and the inexorable pull of the past.

🌈 Southern Comfort (Kate Davis, 2001): Robert Eads was a charming, chain-smoking transgender man who died in 1999 of a cancer doctors wouldn't treat. Davis shot his final year, spent in the embrace of his chosen family, who gave him a fortifying home in a world blind to his beauty.

🌈 Spa Night (Andrew Ahn, 2016): A Korean-American teen balances filial duty with his irrepressible sexual curiosity in this immersive and formally controlled debut, which offers no false promises but plenty of compassion for a character that American movies rarely bring into focus.

🌈 Strong Island (Yance Ford, 2017): By reckoning with the 1992 murder of his brother William, Ford shows—visually, sonically, rhetorically—how his family's burden is that of so many African-American families who know that the personal and the political can never truly be unbraided.

Okay. Batwoman -- A+++++. Like seriously!! I'm not sure I'm willing to check out Nancy Drew since I got bored with Riverdale and am at least a season behind.. I don't want another teen drama.. THE PRODIGAL SON - OH MY LORD!! It's like some took Criminal Minds and The Following and Hannibal and decided to write a crossover self-insert and produce it BEAUTIFULLY?? So. Good. The others? Not sure I recognize... Where does one find ST: Picard?????

Nancy Drew has some aesthetic qualities similar to Riverdale but it seems to be very different content-wise and thematically. Hard to tell with just a few eps in, but if it helps at all - it’s more of a young adult than teen show. The main characters are somewhere between 18-23? I’d guess and it’s about their lives in town after high school for the folks who didn’t go on to college at the age most folks move away and do that. 

YES on Prodigal Sons. I was worried about the dozens of super icky ways they could be taking this show and maybe they still will with some of them because they do seem to like to push the boundaries but it has a lot of interesting things to say about trauma in complicated families and - while my family was not Quite that traumatic or complicated, it still prolly makes the list. lol So I’m digging it for the psychotherapy angle as well as the small and long arcs and character inter-development. 

Star Trek: Picard starts in January on CBSAA

As for the others you didn’t recognize - if you enjoy the psychological elements of a show and a sort of push/pull between what might be human beings being evil (or in some cases sick) vs. supernatural evil - you might wanna give Evil a check. 

And Stumptown is the BEST new show this fall, imo. We get a masculine-ish possibly bi (she’s said she’s slept with women b4 but not how she’d identify) badass war vet woman who is a total disaster in her life but is finding meaning in becoming a private eye. She has a male best friend (they did it once early on and then decided on friendship). She takes care of a brother with Downs - played by an actor who has it himself. The cast is pretty racially diverse with lots of Native characters, Michael Ealy being the kind of  hmmmm Dex doesn’t do love so sex interest?? lol The cases of the week are fun romps with real issues attached and there are some very interesting overarching arcs for several of the characters that I’m excited to see come to fruition. 

Anyway, that’s my TV proselytizing. Hope you enjoyed it! lol
