She opens the door to their apartment, making a b-line to the bathroom and just stares at herself in the mirror. she touches her face and turns her head many times before sighing and bringing fists to cover her eyes. she leans against the wall, slowly sliding down until she's sitting on the ground, eyes still covered. Finally she speaks aloud, "i'm so ugly- they were right there's nothing pretty about me."

Jack knew she’d be home soon. Dinner was on the stove, ready to be made but he’d been caught up in a “business” call for about ten minutes now, and telling the buyer he had to make food for his kid would likely just make them more ornery.

“Ten grand or the deal is off. I’m not negotiating with you any more.” He had shrimp defrosting and a jammed pistol he needed to fix. This caller he’d worked with before. Normally they were intelligent but tonight they thought trying to be cheap with a world renown mercenary was a good idea.

The door closed and he turned to see her dart away, frowning. Something was up immediately.

A begrudging agreement on the line and Jack hung up.

He can hear her as he walks over to the door, frowning as he looks at her curled up on the ground. Part of taking the young child into his care would inevitably involve many things Jack didn’t know about, given his own.... “upbringing”. So, he did his best and sat down in the doorway, frowning.

“That doesn’t sound right, kiddo,” he leaned elbows on his knees. “Whoever ‘they’ are sound blind, even I know that.”

HE KNEW who she was, and it was highly likely she knew him, too. He’d never made an effort to hide who he was because he never needed to. He wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. So, naturally, his face and identity were rather popular. But she was popular, too, and he’d wanted to meet her for a while now, talk to her, pick the mind of the prodigy herself. He didn’t think he’d be granted the opportunity, yet there she was, conversing with high-class millionaires on the open floor of a convention center.

It wasn’t much of a surprise to see her here. It was a gathering of rich investors, entrepreneurs, and the great minds of science and technology - minds not unlike Efi’s own. Akande had many connections here, ones he wanted to reconnect with now that he was once again a free man. That, however, could wait.

“Excuse me.” With a smile, he stepped into the gathering around the girl. “May I steal a moment of Miss Oladele’s time?” Charming as ever, Akande thanked the others as they agreed and left him with the prodigy. He turned to her, towering over the poor, small girl, and offered her his best smile. “I have been hoping to meet you one day. My name is Akande Ogundimu. It’s a pleasure.” With that, he offered her a large hand.
