How I got into Productivity Hacking
I’m challenging myself to create and express myself more and so I’m going to publish more in any format I can… including publishing here. I’m a huge productivity nerd because I believe “productivity hacking” is some of the most fun tinkerers can have.
I started a new job and in my first few weeks of working there, I quickly got overwhelmed. I started taking notes about my work using #sublimetext (https://www.sublimetext.com/) and this awesome sublime plugin, Dired, which allows you to browse your files in a text editor. Taking notes helped calm the storm that had brewed.
Then I discovered #notion(https://www.notion.so/) and moved this whole system I had built because it worked so much better. Search, sort, links, navigation and organization became integrated into the system and I still use Notion religiously to this day. Databases are a supreme feature!
The next great thing that happened to me was the #fortelabs Building a Second Brain Course. I cannot recommend it enough. It taught me how to harness the power of the note-taking I was now doing. It's hard to figure out all the pieces, but it has been a worthwhile journey.
I built out a Second Brain in Notion thank’s to #ThomasFrank's Template and several custom ones. The larger #notion community online has also been quite inspirational.
The last piece of magic that happened to me was #n8n (https://n8n.io/). It’s felt like a well-kept secret superpower. The next natural step in many second brains is automation. Most of the automation tools that exist cost too much for many of the tinkerers of the world which is why this #opensource app is the best one.
My most amazing creation so far is my ability to quickly capture ideas. I have an amazing quick-capture toolkit that collects tasks and notes from anywhere with a few keystrokes. It takes advantage of a host of amazing tools like #alfred (https://www.alfredapp.com/) and Google keep.
