Professional Distribution, Oil Royalties
The position “Professional, Distribution” is responsible for approximately 120 net accounts; performing all of the complex accounting functions associated with the joint venture billings, and corresponding with the holders and the operators. This position also provides knowledgeable, experienced support to the Distribution Administrators in the areas of: auditing profile changes, investigating discrepancies in royalty statements, assertively following up with oil companies when required; as well as analyzing and preparing accounting detail of incorrectly allocated royalties. Major Responsibilities: - Receives and allocates royalty income and expenses to the net accounts. The statements received for these accounts are very complex and require a great deal of analysis and interpretation ensuring that the royalties and expenses are allocated correctly and within established timelines. - Using Excel, posts income and /or deductions on a monthly basis ensuring that the information being posted is accurate and complete. Reconciles the accounts and ensures that distribution of the accounts is completed as per schedule. - Ensures payment of all taxes, crown royalties and other invoices associated with the net accounts, as per their designated schedule. - Calculates and files the income tax returns associated with the net accounts. - When Distribution Administrators are unable to resolve issues with Oil Companies, this position will communicate with a diverse group of clients and oil company personnel to clarify royalty payments, request correction, and obtain back up as required - Perform analysis of royalty received and allocated incorrectly, determining the magnitude of the discrepancy - Provides assistance to the Team Leader, Distribution as required. These duties include, but are not limited to: auditing the distributions on a weekly basis, reviewing and verifying the work of the Distribution Admin auditing and verifying allocation profiles as they are created by the Distribution Administrators to ensure proper allocation of funds spot checking distribution records, ensuring that the trusts are being balanced and/or distributed as per their designated schedule Skills and Experience Required: - University degree preferably in Commerce, Finance or Business Administration would be an asset. - CAPPA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting) certification or equivalent business experience. - Intermediate accounting skills, including advanced reconciliation ability - Intermediate knowledge of Oil and Gas statements. - Knowledge of PC applications (word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail) is required. - 3-4 years of experience in accounting and finance.
