Site module overview

If choosing Site you will be expected to work physically at a site for 2 weeks. This could be a full two weeks or broken up over the course of a few weeks. This will be held in trimester 2.

The first step would be to do an intense research on different sites as a key starting point. Beginning with choosing the site is curtail for starting ideas on how to work or manipulate a site for this project. The university will provide a number of students with a site already arranged such as: 8 places at Flat Time house, working 1-2 days at John Leathams House, 10 places to work at Kurt Schwitters last studio and 3 places at Out of the attic.

Artist run gallery exhibition

When putting up an exhibition there's a number of things to consider such as the costs. If choosing the gallery project you will need to research the overall cost. This would include the costs of the venue, materials to put up the artworks if your were to sell food and drink etc. 

One of the first steps would be to educate yourself and group on how to approach a gallery professionally and how to get their attention without being ignored. This could be the simplest change in contact such as phoning the gallery rather than emailing as they cant ignore you when speaking on the phone and you are more likely to get a straight forward answer. 

Another step would be to thoroughly research the venue, visit exhibitions being held there already, speak to their curator and read and reflect on the venues reviews. When visiting it would be best to take photographs of the venue walls and figure out how you would display the work and if they would allow fixtures in the walls for example.

The next step would be to come together as a team and discuss how you would manage the work load equally. Everyone gets assigned a responsibility such as someone being the curator or someone being responsible for marketing. Together you must think of a theme for the exhibition, this would lead to a press release/ shots and posters.

Education module overview

The education module will put you in the position to work with young people between the ages of 0 and 18. This could be in environments such as prisons, schools and art therapy. In this module you will commit to a residency in an educational location. 

Research ideas for after choosing education:

Research on how this residency complies with your ambition for the future and future career prospects. Investigate residency opportunities. Research case studies, previous students experiences and artist talks.

Remember to evidence everything. Take notes on all phone calls.
