To those that knew him, it was perhaps no secret that The Doctor himself was someone who existed under an alias. His real name had been a topic of great debate, but the fact remained that no-one, not even his closest companions, knew the real nature of his identity for sure. It would undoubtedly be something that, when the time came, he would take to his grave.
However, he had also experienced those who had decided to change their persona for very different, very unjust motives - normally as an act of cowardice to evade rightful punishment for their disgraceful behaviour - and they had been the subject of his recent comments.
“Oh - I didn’t mean to cause any offence, dear chap! People decide to change themselves with the very best of intentions in mind, there’s no doubting that. I was more referring to those who do it for all the wrong reasons - you know, criminals and the like. Yes, I’ve had my fair share of altercations over the years. Can’t say I have much respect for those who decide to hide behind a false name instead of taking responsibility for their actions, can you?”
