Dear Authors (and people of Tumblr), hopefully you will forgive us for taking such a long hiatus in the midst of our 25 Days of Christmas Author Spotlight. Life has been a little hectic, but we are back at it and can’t wait to celebrate the rest of our authors. So, without further ado ...

Getting to Know You

HAFH: Tell us how you fell in love with Harry Potter.

PE: When I was a kid, one Christmas I woke up Christmas Eve or morning with the chicken pox, so my family had to cancel our vacation to visit some family friends. That year, the first three Harry Potter books were under the Christmas trees for me! So, instead of our trip, my mom, dad, and I lounged around our living room and read the books. I had to read them in order, so I got them in order. My parents would hand over whichever book I was on if one of them was reading it. My dad though, he read them in almost backwards order I think. I was outraged and couldn’t fathom reading them that way! That was all it took, I read those three and I was hooked. I literally read them over and over again until the fourth book FINALLY came out.

HAFH: Who is your favorite Character? Which is your favorite book? Why?

PE: My favorite character is Lily Evans Potter! I love her! But my favorite of Harry’s generation is Ginny. Both smart, passionate, hot-headed, red-headed witches ;) The last book is my favorite because it pulls everything together and is the end. I really enjoy endings for some reason, not sure why.

HAFH: What is your favorite book (outside of HP)?PE: Divergent! I LOVE Tris! And Four, but mostly Tris!

HAFH: What are your favorite holiday traditions? PE: Cookie baking: all my aunts and some of my cousins and I will get together to bake cookies, and we bake hundreds and hundreds. We start at like 8AM and go until around 5pm, and we listen to Christmas music while we bake and decorate.

HAFH: What are you doing when you're not obsessing about Harry Potter or fanfiction?

PE: I am a Mary Kay consultant and a gymnastics coach. I love both jobs as with one I get to empower women and make them feel beautiful and my other I get to teach 4-11 year-olds and shape them and help them grow stronger. My life pretty much boils down to make up, gymnastics, and Harry Potter!

General Fanfiction

HAFH: If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

PE: Jily! I am obsessed with James and Lily! I love that she’s this fiery, intelligent witch and he knew he loved her from the start and was willing to grow up for her.

HAFH: Do you have a muse? What is it?! If not, where do you get your ideas?

PE: I feel like I don’t have a muse. Or if I do it’s the characters themselves. Some of my ideas come from chatting with friends, but sometimes they just appear in my mind and it fits for what Hayden or Lily would do, so I have to include it. Or it’s something that’s so perfectly Sirius or James that I have to write it down.

HAFH: Do you read fanfiction? Do you read similar or different things than you write?

PE: I do read fanfiction. I originally read stories that kind of inspired me to start writing and are very similar to my WIP multichapter story. But I’m branching out more and more with what I read and have definitely started reading things totally different from what I write!

HAFH: Does what you read affect what or how you write? If yes, how so?

PE: Definitely. It helps me figure out how I want to portray the characters in my own story. I always do research before writing about a new character!

HAFH: How long have you been reading and writing fanfiction?

PE: I started both reading and writing it in March of this year! I’m a total newb, but I find it enthralling!

Writing Process

HAFH: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

PE: I do a bit of both. As a whole, I write it from start to finish. BUT, if I have a scene appear in my mind and I know what I want to happen or what people are going to say and how they’ll say it, I’ll write it whether I’m there or not. That’s part of how Fighting to Love, my main fic and WIP, ended up with an ending before I finished the first chapter!

HAFH: Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

PE: I’m strictly canon compliant. It makes it the most real to me!

That being said...I’m considering branching out a bit, but I’d need to have a really good story line or prompt to get me to actually do it.

HAFH: Is there a character, book, scene, etc from canon (above all others) that inspires you?

PE: Honestly, Lily. And Lily and James. I love that she knew she was going to be targeted for being muggleborn and she fought anyway. She had intelligence and brains and could follow rules without an issue, but she was still fiery and able to fall in love with a major prankster. And I love that James was willing to grow up to earn her love.

HAFH: Is writing your passion or a fun hobby?

PE: For now at least, it’s a fun hobby. I could see it becoming a true passion eventually, but other things are still slightly more important or now

Works in Progress

HAFH: Talk about your current wips.

PE: My current WIP is Fighting to Love, which is also my only non-one shot so far. It’s marauders’ era, naturally, and features Jily (my OTP), BlacKinnon (Sirius and Marlene, whom I LOVE), and an original character!

HAFH: Do you accept prompts?

PE: Yes! I’ve only received one so far, and some one-shot competition ones (that I have yet to finish on time to submit), but I’d gladly take more!

HAFH: Which is your favorite site to post fic? PE: PE: Fanfiction.net, but that’s mostly because it’s the only site I’ve fully figured out so far!

HAFH: What kind of feedback do you prefer?

PE: I like overall positive feedback, of course! But I’ll take anything!
