2023.01.21 - FB Profile Update Saturday: At this point in the afternoon I was sitting at the EastEnd bar trying to jot down from memory a story I started composing around 3AM after my cat woke me up for some ear scratching and an early morning feeding, a revision of a fairy tale I’ll call ‘The Princess Had to Pee.’ A girl shows up at a castle claiming to be the princess of a neighbouring kingdom looking to marry the resident King and Queen’s son. They get at least three of these a week so, of course, they have to put her to the tests. So far none of alleged princesses have passed the first three of their tests: manners (some are downright rude), manner of speech (some are downright Appalachian in their presentation - nothing wrong with that, mind you: good folk most of them, but you ain’t never seen no princess come out from over there, no) and table manners (feet and elbows off the table, please!). This one, conducted her self well, spoke with charm and handled a fork and knife with great dexterity. The fourth test, though, was going to be a challenge. They invited her to spend the night in the guest room. The bed was stacked high with 100 mattresses. Though puzzled, she gamely climbed a ladder to the top and settled down to sleep. The footman took the ladder saying he would be back at 6AM. Around 3AM she woke up needing to go to the bathroom, but couldn’t get down. She tried holding it in until footman came back, but after a couple of hours she could hold it no longer. The next morning the footman, accompanied by the King and Queen and what they saw surprised them: from underneath the bed came a stream of yellow liquid. It was a pleasant surprise because they knew: only a true princess could pee through one hundred stacked mattresses. Then something or other happened and they lived happily ever after.
