yixing doesn’t need to use any kind of problem as an excuse to see his sister, but the woman intimidates him. he calls it respect. besides, he doesn’t want to bother her with useless, dull conversation. 

with an hour free also falling right when qian is free, yixing quickly makes a trip back to his dorm, taking his potions book -- riddled with multi-coloured sticky notes between its pages -- and a pen, promptly tucked at his ear, towards qian’s office in the dungeons. the dreary dancing darkness does little to faze him; they’re practically permanent instalments in the slytherin common rooms. once he arrives at the door to her office he knocks, twice, and another, just in case, before calling out: “professor song? i have a question about felix felicis.”

at the sound of her husband’s knocking, qian steps back from her desk. its surface and the paperwork that had once crowded it now clean and organised. with a satisfied nod, she snatches her suitcase from its place on her chair and grins at her husband. “yes, darling! do you have any idea what we should have for dinner?”

"i do remember hyojin telling me she wanted cookies for dinner, but i promised to let her have some after proper dinner.” he smiles at her, as warmly as he’s always had, and outstretches a hand for her to take. any chance to hold his wife’s hand is a good one. “your mum also spoke to me about cooking some lamb for dinner tonight, so i think we have it covered. shall we?”
