How would you feel about marriage as a whole being abolished? I think anyone should be able to marry whoever, and however many people they want, or no one should be able to get married at all. Marriage isn't a right, it's a legally binding agreement that grants people certain privileges by the government. What is a right, however, is equality.
I don't think that marriage should be abolished.
It holds too much significance with too many people so abolishing it would be taking away a lot of freedoms for many people, and take away choice.
I think that everyone should have the right to marry who ever and how many people they want. That's the right way to go rather than taking away the privileges that millions of people have.
I'd rather fight for something than give up on it.
Marriage means something different for everyone... it's cherished by some. To me, it's about commitment and I've made a goal to have my marriage last more than 7 years... unlike my parents' marriage. I wouldn't want to abolish marriage and ruin the goals and dreams of others. That's cruel.
Marriage-- despite what many Christians seem to think-- does not belong to Christianity. Marriage existed far before that dogma started, and exists in every culture. It's not kosher to tell other cultures whether or not their marriage is valid or tell them that it should be abolished.
So long as marriage exists elsewhere in the world, you won't reach equality by abolishing it.
