Philippe Guerre - Cristal
Not much in the way of biography can be found on Philippe Guerre on the world wide web. His life in the world of music was short lived with only Cristal released in 1979 and *Concerto Pour La Mort D'un Clown* released in 1981.
Cristal was produced on a Teisco 100F monophonic synthesizer and an Elka Rhapsody string synthesizer. Both iconic instruments from the 70s that today are quite rare to come by.
Cristal is a lovely progressive electronic album with a lot of early space music sounds. The Teisco 100F is bubbling and echoing throughout most of the melancholic tracks. Philippe Guerre’s melodies are somewhat hastily played, with natural imperfections.
All the sounds are very synthetic and somewhat basic, which speaks of the early curiosity of electronic music that is somewhat lost in much modern music (although it is worth mentioning Peter Kember’s Experimental Audio Research in the context of Cristal as his work Worn to a Shadow shares some similarities to the album).
It’s an album that, once you start listening to, is hard to put down.
