The Unibind®
Thermal Binding System
There are many choices for binding your documents today, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: most technologies used today are over 40 years old! The Unibind Thermal Binding System is the solution to your binding requirements if you need your documents looking as professional as possible and do not want to spend a lot of time doing it yourself or spending a fortune to have someone else do it for you.
What Is SteelBinding?
SteelBinding is a binding term used by the Belgian-based Unibind® Company which is the process they use to bind the documents to a cover. Whether you’re using documents, reports, books or photos, you can actually bind them permanently to the cover, yet also retain the ability to edit the pages! The patented Unibind system actually changes the molecular structure of the paper used and essentially welds those pages to the resin inside the spine. When heated up, the resin becomes pliable, creating the ability to add or remove pages.
The process of using the machine is so simple! 1) place your documents inside the cover, 2) place cover(s) in machine, light with activate red 3) after roughly 60 seconds, the light turns green and your left with a perfectly bound document!
Why Does My Business Need a Unibind Machine?
Are you a service-orientated company who need to impress customers with professionally written documents? How important is it for you to have your message look as beautiful as possible? Do you think you can currently do this with your documents quickly and easily?
What if I told you that the Unibind Covers are of such high quality...and the Unibind machines are so simple that there isn’t even an on/off switch? Anyone in your office can simply align paper within a cover, set it in the machine and walk away! In just over a minute, you’ll have a gorgeous bound document that is far superior to anything else available!
What kind of volume can Unibind machines handle?
The type of machine you are using will dictate the amount of projects it can create simultaneously. There are three models of machine, The XU138, XU238 and XU338. The difference in each machine are the number of heating elements each has. The XU138 has one heating element which you can bind 8 / 10-page documents at one time because 8 reports will fit on the single heating element. The XU238 has 2 heating elements that can work independently of each other. You can place the same 8 different reports in one element, than add 8 more reports a moment later to the other element for a total of 16 / 10-page reports all binding simultaneously. The XU338 just adds another heating element so you could get up to 24 / 10-page documents all binding simultaneously.
As for the covers themselves, there are roughly 12 different sizes from 1mm (1/16th”)spines to 36mm (1-1/2”)spines. The largest cover available can hold up to 340 pages! Each cover has a suggested page volume (based on 20lb. paper) for each size. You can have far fewer pages per cover but not more than the suggested number.
What kind of covers are available?
Unibind offers 5 specific models of cover. Each are specific to the kind of document that you want to bind or the look you want to achieve. The options are SteelCrystal which is a clear plastic cover with different color spines. Black is usually the standard color for most covers but there are many options. The next type is the SteelMat which is similar to the clear covers except there is a semi-translucent matte finish. Next are the SteelBook covers. These are exactly like any other hard-bound book except they work with the Unibind machines. SteelBooks are the ultimate in professional finish with ability to customize the look of each book. There are also SteelBack spines that are available. These are literally just the spine of the document so you can bind either something with no covers or you can use customizable coversets. You can either supply your own coversets or we can get them for you. Customizable features include foil stamping or 4-Color pressing logos, window cutting and corner accessories. Lastly, you can bind Photobooks which are specially designed books for photos with multiple size options, colors and finishes.
