IVY LEAGUE WHOREHOUSE
So, the Westboro Baptist Church has declared my alma mater, Vassar College, to be an "Ivy League whorehouse."
I'm not gonna lie, this tickles me.
Vassar is exactly the kind of place that would flaunt a label like that from the WBC. One of the staunchest bastions of liberalism and most fiercely LGBTQ-friendly colleges in the country, I'm both unsurprised and incredibly proud that we did... something... to attract the WBC's ire. I guess we were too gay? Or slutty? Or gay slutty? (Slutty gay godless feminist socialists??)
In addition to whatever mocking its incredibly creative students will inevitably come up with during the protest itself, in the last 24 hours or so, Vassar has turned this attention into a fundraising opportunity for The Trevor Project, which provides counseling and crisis prevention for LGBTQ youth.
The original goal was to raise $100 for every minute of the WBC protest, for a total of $4,500. We blew past $25,000 in less than a day with more than two weeks to go before the planned protest.
