Experimentation: Audio for Project 4

Part 1: Goals

An important part of Project 4 for me is also the audio choice. As of right now, it is the instrumental of a song that I feel conveys the emotions of the project, but I would like to experiment with the dissection of the audio to aid the message.

Part 2: Tests

I feel a bit more confident in Audition than I do in the blend modes in Premiere, so I have a prepared list of effects and editing styles that I practiced with in Project 3 in the hopes of using some in this project. The track contains multiple pauses and moments of silence, many of which I would like to use to transition into the distortion or fill with other audio I have gathered (such as the sounds of the ocean and nature). The main effect I look forward to trying is reversal, but more specifically, copying a section of audio and pasting it right after, and then reversing the newly added copy.

Part 3: Results

The sound of the audio came out much better than anticipated, and due to the melody and instruments used, the sound still remained quite pleasant (though still a bit eerie). I was able to utilize moments of silence, like in the beginning, as planned, and get the desired effect.

Part 4: Changes

While I was quite happy with the results of this experiment, I realized, while utilizing it, that it may not fit this project as I had hoped. I do really like the audio and its distortion, but I feel as though it takes away from the childlike nostalgia feel of the video and instead creates too much distortion. I will continue to experiment, but as of right now, I can not see where this may fit in the way I would like it to.

For this project, me and my team created a device called the Keycard. The Keycard is essentially a phone that can hold your credit card and your house key. While designing this, we did research to see if anyone else had done this idea before and found that no one had so far. We also did research into various different types of user interface to assist in designing the various UI for our new product. Aside from this, we researched phones from companies such as apple and Samsung. This allowed us to design a high end phone with all of our new features installed and informed us on what makes a user interface give a good user experience. Aside from this we also found a way to make the device work. The idea for this product originally came from the team brainstorming new idea's and was the combination of idea's that came from all of our members. These idea's were then placed into a phone. As well as each of us thinking of idea's, the team also divided up tasks such as the tasks to create an advertisement, two motion posters and four still posters in which Sam did the still's, Iain did the motion posters and I did the advertisement. Over all I think that our products final outcome went well with a unique design that has been though out both in the exterior and interior designs.

-dylan- this product is called keycard. keycard was designed to inusre the safety of your belongings while still staying as a high end mobile device. The keycard has multiple functions such as:

A spring loaded mechanism that releases a key from an internal slot fitted around the key as well as a rotating cylinder that safely ejects the credit card from the slot on the side. this function can be activated via a press of a binded macro key or through the user interface.

-Iain- This product also includes four programmable macro key's that can have various functions binded to them in the settings interface. These funcions include ejecting the key and card, and do other functions such as turning on the phone's torch, opening the camera application, can connect to our partnered company philips hue, phillips hue is a company that distributes lights that can be wirelessly be turned on. We have communicated with this company to further advertise our two products in a joint collaberation, our device can turn on these lights with one of the macro key's when programmed in the settings menu. additionally the phone has a safety feature in which when the battery dies, you can withdraw key and card by typing the safety pin with the macro buttons.

-sam- We researched different phone companies such as apple and samsung then came up with a unique idea to create a mobile device with the capability to store items such as a credit card and house keys. We all agreed that a mobile device which could do this would be amazing and very helpfull for people who travel alot , Before finalazing our idea we double checked online to see if there was a simular design created but there wasnt so we went with the idea.

Today I practiced using isometric drawing. Afterwards I used Autodesk Maya to create another 3d model of the phone design to scale and then exported it as a .stl file so that it can be 3d printed.
