M doing Hammockasha: suspension gymnastic/yoga
This was N's earlier floating flag, which spawned the floating sign design. He asked me to buy him scrubbies from the dollar store, and then built these. My fear was that they would soak up the water and the whole structure would sink. However he did try it in the kiddie pool, and apparently it floated! The Plan with this one is it will be a goal in a kayak race with his cousins. (Note the rock attached to the structure with rope!)
Being here in his favourite place in the world (Manitoulin Island) is giving my boy endless bounds of creativity. Here is his sign which he is planning to bring to "party Island" (a rock outcropping across the bay). He has written his and his cousins' names, which itself is something to note--he is writing!--but the interesting thing from an engineering perspective is the floating supports he has built as the base. The first attempt was an upside down tee shape, which immediately flopped over when he brought it down to the beach to try out. So he brought it back to the shed and built it out like you see in the pictures. We shall see tomorrow if it floats! The other interesting thing about this project is around Planning. My boy has so many Plans, and he gets so upset when things don't work out (especially when I or Daddy block them!). So I am at the ready to acknowledge if things aren't working out, help him to accept barriers that need to be accepted, to collect his tears, and clear the way for new solutions to be born.
Here is one of N'a bottle caps that he flattened here while on vacation.
N's bottle caps
N is so excited to collect bottle caps at the cottages that he can then turn into flattened caps.
Vacation PBH
On vacation and this is my only PBH journal. N decided to use his little notepad as a nature journal or perhaps just a journal of his vacation. He was writing in it about the tree borers and the nice water during their night swim.
M brought her M pillow and her heart pillow for her bed here. She is so sweet with her decor niceties.
Also, since listening to the podcast on BraveWriter I have been trying to jot down the kids' stories and share them back to them--it's awesome first to record what they are coming up with but also to nurture their writing selves!
