7 th post- Description of how the problem is an intersectional issue:Narrative of Urban Geeky Queer Transgender Women at UIC and a university often called a ‘Commuter School’
This topic could gain a lot from using an intersectionality as a conceptual lense to gain a perspective in terms of why a lower class first generation college goer , that is a queer woman, who is transgender would feel isolated. Often professor’s topic at UIC’s are about working at google or apple as a goal but I would argue that this career path is not as desired as someone above.
Computer science is simply a utility to organize many personal and institutional ideas. These ideas , this organization of knowledge still kept behind a gate if and only if you can relate and connect with someone who doesn’t worry about paying lunch, rent or the laptop they need to to do homework and play games on to find study buddies. The pursuit of knowledge is not the goal I have experience more often than I’d like to admit at a commuter university like UIC it conflicts with more urban queers living poor in order to have community and have geeky gatherings.
