So true
“Sometimes you have to do things that make no sense”
The story of Hideo Kojima (known primarily for the Metal Gear franchise), part 1.
I personally take the following approach: turn off all notifications/badges/etc for every app except reminders I personally create, text messages, and phone calls. I also intentionally limit any access to social networks and news.
It is, in a word, awesome. I don’t have the World blaring at me from all angles and yet I stay reachable if someone needs me. As for social networks and news, I see their use but I don’t feel the need to check in all the time. Once a week (if at all) is more than enough.
Taking those steps lowered my overall stress level in a big way, and it helped me connect far more to the world that is going on around me right now. You don’t have to go away to find peace from all the tech/news/social networks/etc, you just have to embrace that you are the one in control of what you see.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, boss fights are a time-honored video game tradition. Nefarious is a game that turns The Old Ways on their head. You’re the boss taking on a band of annoyingly plucky heroes. You might even recognize some of the boss fights.
The Lady’s Choice is a visual novel that takes its inspiration from Regency era novels. Its arch writing and wry sense of humor give in the same sense of charm and intrigue as the best of Jane Austen.
Sometimes....
The sheer number of games on Steam is overwhelming, and more new ones come out per day than ever before. Despite that, Steam’s upper echelon has calcified, with an Old Guard looking down from the top of the most-played list at all the peasants below.
Huh, interesting statistic.
Minecraft comes packed with simple graphics, but if you want to add a little visual flair to your world, modders have you covered. Here’s a guide to installing fantastic Minecraft shaders.
One of the latest Andromeda trailers. Interesting: you can apparently change classes during gameplay, possibly even on-the-fly. I’m not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, yeah, people can change and decide something would work better if done differently. It also lets you sample classes you normally wouldn’t be able to prior unless you restarted the game (or games, if you were on ME:3 and imported your character).
On the other....it’s definitely a departure from how things worked in the prior 3 games. I kinda felt that Shepard was a specialist in a particular field; you get to choose the field, but it really made your choice matter. It also made you focus more on teamwork and encouraged the sense that Shepard was human, i.e. she (or I guess he) wasn’t a superwoman who could do anything. If you can change classes at will, why do you need a team?
We’ll see how it turns out. I like the idea of not being stuck in a particular class permanently (just for trying things out), but I don’t think changing classes should be an on-the-fly thing. That would almost make the main character be too much like someone in a “game” vs someone in a “story”.
Two Google Homes argue with each other on Twitch, and it’s amazing. Vladimir and Estragon have been sitting next to each other having a somewhat coherent conversation since this morning. It’s riveting—here are some highlights.
I’ve played a lot of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Like, a LOT. My Steam counter just cracked 200 hours, and that’s not counting the first time I played the game on PS4. I figured I’d seen everything there was to see, but a mod I recently installed has proved me wrong.
Awesome HUD mod for Witcher 3.....maybe I need to start that new game+ sometime soon....
Conan’s Clueless Gamer with Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage, playing Overwatch.
Don’t watch if you want to really understand anything about the game, but do watch for amusing dialogue between the three actors.
Oh, good. TBS may turn Conan O’Brien’s “Clueless Gamer” sketch into a whole TV show.
One of the best features of Final Fantasy XV are Prompto’s photos. Every time you rest for the night, the game will show you a roll of photos from that day’s adventures which you can save and share on social media. These randomly generated mementos are mostly unique to your particular game, giving it a lot of personality, and sometimes they’re strikingly beautiful. But sometimes…sometimes they look like absolute ass.
It’s true, Promto’s photos are an excellent part of the game, especially when you are getting close to the end, as when you look at the ones you’ve saved over time it forms its own personal story. It really helps lock in the “journey” aspect of the game as it can remind you of all you have done and such
However, sometimes I was like “Prompto, what were you doing when you took that shot? Did you notice as you were snapping the picture that my character was in serious pain/jeopardy/etc?”
It’s too bad Razer already used the name Switchblade for its CES 2011 micro laptop concept, as it’s would have been perfect for Project Valerie, a gaming laptop that expands from one to three displays with the press of a button.
Have you ever seen a product that made you think “Yep, we’re in the ‘future’ alright”.
You have now (at least if you click the link and look at the product). They’ve not really said that it’s anything more than a concept piece, but it does work, and it does exist. Wow.
