I miss the movies.
Earlier today, in the booth.
Oh good grief, they get bigger.
Seriously though, this movie is downright delightful. It does have the humans VS nature message right up front which saves us from some of the finger-pointing awkwardness of this sort of movies, and has a surprisingly strong focus on character.
But quite honestly there was a strong sense of...schadenfreude? Is the word? When Mothra is flying around making no distinction between who are heroes and who are villains. In a way they all enabled this to happen. That was an excellent way to combine both subjects.
Definitely check this one out.
And now, if you excuse me, I need to get me a fly swatter. A big one.

Seriously though, this movie was...alright.
It doesn’t feel right to talk trash about this movie since it is so harmless and innocent, but it does have some problems. There’s too much of the human characters, which I’d be okay with if it wasn’t because they are the most generic human characters one could imagine, and at times the comedy feels out of place and pointless, like it’s a bad Jerry Lewis knock off.
It’s a relief though that the tone stays consistent, and it’s always light hearted. If it was trying to take itself seriously then I’d have more of an issue with it. I say give it a go, though don’t expect anything spectacular.
And now, if you excuse me, I really need to look into that insurance thing. Gotta add “possible liable causes” to the clause.

Seriously though, this sucked. Like, it really sucked.
I know it’s not fair, every movie can be someone else’s favorite movie, and apparently there’s a version where the guys from Mystery Science Theater make fun of it but...My goodness I feel like I just watched a pile of nothing.
Between the two con-men, the unlikeable child character, the surprisingly obnoxious soundtrack (maybe my copy of the movie had bad audio issues), and the uninspired plot. It’s like “Cloverfield” except done with puppets. Skip this one, don’t even bother. Maybe check the MST3K version, that might be better.
And now, if you excuse me, I need a ten-foot-long pole. I may not like those two brothers, but they don’t deserve to be chomped.
