Conferment is over! It is Sunday morning, I’m awake and very tired (and the balls of my feet never want to touch anything again), but what a godsdamned good party! We danced, we roamed the town, we greeted the rising sun in the small hours. Sparkling wine was consumed in great quantities, food was delicious, there was good coffee, and I have amazing friends. More pictures when we get around to sharing them, and I will certainly make a compilation post of my favourite pictures of me and my dress at a later time. For now, here are some to commemorate a fantastic night – effectively my debutante ball, if you’re one of my Regency romance reading friends <3

Official conferment pictures were posted today and I’m in so many and look relatively good in them especially the act pictures I LITERALLY DIDN’T RECOGNISE MYSELF BUT THEN WAS LIKE “BUT THAT IS WHERE I WAS??? AND THAT’S THE ONLY BRUNETTE HEAD WITH A BUN THERE SO IT MUST BE ME??????”

Soon off to start the conferment stuff all official-like! Flora's Day is the first event day - the general wreathbinder gets chosen, the promovendi propose to them, we sing some stuff, and then head downtown for lunch! Dress code is fairly free (basically smart casual), we have been encouraged to take into account the weather (sunny but not warm today), and the cap is obligatory!

Okay. Okay. Conferment MADNESS starts pretty much today. Tonight is pre-wreathweaving (for those who attend without a wreathweaver, like me), and after that I will rush to book club, and from there to fetch my white dress. Tomorrow we have rehearsals, and then wreathweaving dinner (evening gown dresscode). That’ll end like 23:00. The next morning I gotta be at the hairdresser by 8am, and the loooooong conferment day starts. 

And on Saturday there’s the ball. Guys I’m so excited about the ball. We’re dancing old dances, each followed by a waltz (two dances! Just as is proper!). We will have DANCE CARDS. That is probably my favourite detail. For those uncertain what that means, you can reserve dances with people and they write their name on it next to the name of the dance. This is the most Jane Austen thing ever and I’m just going to take this as my Regency experience and enjoy the hell out of it!

So excited. Also nervous. But excited!

Flora’s Day was, despite being fairly badly organized, a lot of fun! There was sparkling wine, the wreath-weaver was introduced, food was good, as was wine! Also, they stopped traffic for our procession from the Kumpula Manor to the little park where we heard (or, as it turned out, didn’t hear) speeches and sang a bit. From there we got a private vintage tram downtown for the lunch that lasted longer than anyone expected (because we were not informed this was an all-day event). The menu was in Northern Sami!
