day 28 - prompt: wind on AO3
Entry #21: Caution in the Wind
Our camp was stationed approximately seven-hundred yalms south-east of Castrum Marinum. 4ths squads’ duties were to guard against attack and determine the enemies numbers by small incursions into Eorzean territory.
On the date in question, the wind coming over the cliffs was determined to be too high to operate the Reapers and I was assigned the duty of securing them with ground spikes and tow-cable. During the period of carrying out this task, I noticed that the door of the tower was not secured. At that time, I believed it to be as a result of another member of the squad no securing it properly.
After completing my task and properly securing the four Reapers, I returned to the tower. After closing the door, I found the other seven members of my squad sleeping at their post. Other than the open door, there was no other sign of intrusion. I roused the members of my squad, who did not at that time report the causation of their condition. There was some speculation from one member that the food could have been imbibed with a sedative.
We then equipped ourselves with combat gear. When we exited the tower to investigate we noted the absence of the aforementioned Reaper vehicles. Their location was later determined to be at the bottom of the cliffs to the south of the camp. No other forces were located during our search.

The officer nodded slowly as the Secutor, “So, it is your belief that the cause of the loss of these four Reaper combat vehicles was a result of high winds?”
The Secutor shook his head, “Sir, no sir. The location of the Reapers was not sufficiently close to the cliff edge to enable them to fall without outside interference.”
The officer hummed, writing some notes in his report. “So you believe this was a result of enemy action? An enemy that none of your unit observed, nor any other camp, which you can provide no evidence as having existed other than the four destroyed Reaper combat vehicles?”
The Secutor stood to attention, “Sir, yes sir.”
The officer wrote some more notes and looked down at the Secutor, “It is my belief that during the course of your duties your squad did negligently fail to safely secure the Reaper combat vehicles. Subsequently, through your failure to remain alert to the weather conditions and remedy that situation, caused the loss of said vehicles.” The officer waved over to one of the guards and gestured to the Secutor, “Take him away.”

The Secutor knew better than to argue as he was lead off. It wasn’t just his fault, surely the rest of his squad would have to answer for this as well. He wasn’t even commanding officer. As he was led out, he was marched past the body of his commanding officer; he had been run through with a sword.
These damned Eorzeans. They didn’t even have to fight us. They could just turn themselves into the wind and we’d do the rest ourselves.
