Of the many denizens of the feywild, none pique the curious mind as much as Benjamin Ratselmeister, the Master of Puzzles. A bipedal cat-like creature, he travels across the planes with his giant snail, Schnecke, who dutifully pulls his cart of oddities along. He has a variety of powerful items that he sells to those he meets, but they very often come with caveats or... shall we say interesting prices. That being said, he has never been known to have ill intent, so while one should be cautious when meeting him, if you listen to what he says, you should be quite alright.

All through the month of October, write a fic based on the prompt and drop it in our AO3 Promptober 2021 Collection. We will be highlighting fics based on that particular day's prompt word each day so we can all share our work and read along with others.

Promptober Day 5: Warp

Also known as a warp dragon or "the dreamwalker", an oneiwyrm is an ancient and powerful creature. Outside of its innate magical abilities and near impenetrable hide, the most notable thing about an oneiwyrm is that is spends almost all of its time sleeping. Sustained on the ambient magic in the astral plane, oneiwyrms simply allow the psychic winds to pull them along, their massive bodies, recorded as over 600 feet long on average, sometimes being mistaken for islands in the astral sea as they drift.

While they are almost entirely docile in their sleeping state, many believe that oneiwyrms are the source of the phrase "never wake a sleeping dragon". When one awakes, it is typically hostile to the creatures that awoke it, allowing them to feel the full wrath of its strength and magic. Despite this, there are some who take the risk, attempting to harvest valuable materials from the oneiwyrms, or even endeavor to wake one up on purpose, attempting to remove them from blocking a path, or hoping they can convince the oneiwyrm to assist them in one way or another, but they are rarely successful.

Throughout the planes of existence, there are many creatures that inspire fear in the hearts who oppose them, but perhaps none more so than the iron fylax. These angelic creatures are the guardians of Elysium, and they have stood guard over the plane since the dawn of time. They will allow creatures to enter, to pass through even, but if one overstays their welcome, or intends to infiltrate Elysium by other methods, it is the job of the iron fylax's to hunt down and remove the interlopers. They are equipped to handle any threat, but as the legend goes, they do have one weak spot. There are tales of a hidden entrance into Elysium, only accessible by those who find the key, and if one were to enter through this backdoor, the iron fylaxes would treat them as welcome residents to the paradise that is Elysium.

Combined Promptobers: Day 13: Eyes / Day 19: Orbit / Day 23: Angel

Of all the deities revered by mortals, none is quite as esoteric as Mora, the Spirit of Death. Despite being part of what is often considered a lesser group of deities, Mora stands apart, being distinct in both power and posture. He is not merely a god devoted to death, or a protector of the sanctity of life; Mora is Death. However, despite the fear that he invokes in the minds of mortals, Mora is not a figure to be frightened of. He knows that he need not chase anyone down nor hasten any creature's end; because even those who live for hundreds of years or seek countless ways to extend their lives will always, eventually, come to him. He can afford to be kind, to be patient, for he knows that he is inevitable.

Oft seen in a dark cloak and hood, Mora has created his reputation over the ages, rarely seen, rarely interfering. However, on the occasion that he must involve himself, he sheds his cloak and reveals his true form. To any who have the misfortune of encountering him in such a state, there is only one thing to do: make peace with yourself, for your life has reached its end.

Alcyoneus Beetle

If you are ever out in the open ocean and see a small island, maybe 100 feet long, that wasn't there yesterday, be cautious - because you might have run into an Alcyoneus Beetle. These massive earth elementals are fairly docile, sometimes staying asleep for years on end, but they can be quite destructive unintentionally if they are disturbed. To truly witness the might of the Alcyoneus Beetle, one only has to look towards the plume of dark smoke billowing out of its horn. If it feels it is in danger, the elemental will cause an eruption of volcanic rock to burst out of its horn, raining down on anything surrounding it. Thankfully, there is not much in the world that poses a threat to a creature of its size, and if you do find something that fits the bill, you probably have bigger problems.
