just curious, why vote no on stem cell research? doesn't it have a lot of potential?
Stem cell research is good! The no vote is specific to this prop.
I recommend reading the SF League of Pissed-Off Voters’ analysis of Prop 14. Not linking because I’m on mobile but they’re easy to google. They’re much smarter than me.
Here’s an abbreviated version of what I sent to my family:
The League basically says it’s stupid fiscal policy to take out a bond to fund an ongoing project; it’ll bite you in the ass later. (This has been their consistent position all the years I’ve been using them to guide my vote; they are big on bonds for one-off projects, not for ongoing endeavors that will never generate their own revenue to pay the bond back.)
The Bay Guardian says that the agency getting funded by Prop 14 is sketchy and has a tendency to give its board members high salaries and not turn out much in the way of actual medicine.
Also, the CA nurses union opposes it, and on health care I pay a lot of attention to the nurses union.
Of the sources I use, only the SF Tenants’ Union said yes on 14; and this prop is health care, not housing rights, so in a toss-up the nurses union takes my vote over the TU.
I don’t have a strong opinion on this prop. It’s not my area of expertise, this is just my best guess based on what I’ve read.
