Good evening you lovely lot. Just thought I'd share how I made/crafted my Good Omens Prophecy Book for all of you making props (or nay, if ye be recording thine own prophecies for thy descendants to follow...)
1. I bought a hardback book from a charity shop. Okay, you'll have to probably deal with the pages already having text on but plain hard back sketch books be expensive and I am cheap and just using it for a prop. (double check for hardbacks with covers on too. The actual book itself may be the perfect colour)
2. I very gently sandpapered the gold embossed writing on the spine (please don't kill me for hurting a book, trust me it felt like sacrilege), be careful not to wear the material on the spine out completely, the idea here is just to make it flat enough so we can paint over it later.
3. Use sand paper again to "weather" the edges to make it look like its got around town since the 1600's (AGAIN I AM SORRY FOR HURTING MY PAPER FILLED FRIEND)
4. Use a pencil to lightly mark the lines, use a ruler to make it more accurate. (a normal pencil would be fine too I'm sure but I used a white pencil as it showed better on the green cover)
5. Use a gold fabric pen to add the definition (again use pencil to map everything out before hand, and again, use a ruler for the straight lines)
6. Use acrylic paint to hide the spine writing (as we smoothed out the spine earlier the writing won't be as visible as it would have been trying to paint directly on the gold, you may need two coats)
7. For the darling little mug stain I used acrylic paint again (as actual tea of coffee may have bled into the book material too much)
8.... and voila!
So for the "N" in the symbol at the top I used a normal fine liner and you'll notice that my capital letters of the title are far less decadent than in the shows book but its a little easier to read, so it doesn't have to be exact to look splendid!
I hope this was handy for those who may have needed it 😁❤️
Happy doomsday all! 😈😇
