Ellie was pacing the length of the corridor by Jack’s office, she sighed and shook her head “just tell her, she’ll be supportive, she’ll be nonjudgmental just go and talk to her” she said in her mind telling herself to just go for it. She was just about to open the door when Jack did she was surprised to see Sloane standing there with her favorite cup of coffee, a Peppermint Mocha from the scent of it and the label on the side and a danish that had her name all over it, “I was worried you weren’t going to come so I made sure I had a little incentive, how did I do?” Jack asked with a nod of her head. Ellie felt her mouth watering already when Nick was passing by her,she blushed and looked at the ground the lipstick stain from kissing his cheek before work was still there on his face and she was about to say something when Jack said “Torres you got a little something on your cheek there, someone kissing you under the Mistletoe?” she asked before gaging Bishops expression.
Ellie remained neutral for the most part with her expressions but, it was her eyes that gave her away when Nick was out of the hallway she looked at Jack and said “well I didn’t think we had a appointment today?”
When Jack said in return “so there’s no reason you’ve been pacing outside my office for nearly a half hour?”
Ellie couldn’t say anything for herself, she nervously bit her lower lip “Um well there is actually, can we talk?” she said her voice lowering and nearly whispering.
Jack stepped out of the way “I didn’t get this coffee and danish for myself, not the biggest danish fan” she said before walking into the office and Ellie taking her seat on the couch next to Jack, she took her coffee from Jack and Jack picked up her own, with a message from Gibbs on it, she smiled at the simple note and then focused her attention to Ellie.
Ellie took a sip and broke a tiny piece of the danish off and chewing and swallowing satisfying that craving she took another sip and said “well I think you already know, but um..Nick and I have been privately seeing each other for nearly a year, and it’s getting serious what with our recent case and how I was nearly killed and the baby that we both grew a hell of a lot attached to it was a struggle letting him go and with a older woman mistaking Nick and I for the parents it makes me want to be a mom and have a life like that with Torres, we have spoken about marriage briefly but he knows that after what happened with Jake and Qasim I have reservations but…” she said trailing off and looked at her hands envisioning a wedding ring on her finger and having it be from Nick.
Jack looked at Ellie “Why have you kept it so private?” she said trying not to be a hypocrite about her and Gibbs relationship. She looked at Ellie again before picking up her coffee and sipping at it, “Is it because you think it would be hard to convince the rest of the team to be supportive? Because if that is the case then you have no problem at all, we all kind of felt something during the last case, the way you and Nick held that baby and looked at each other when the other wasn’t watching is a pretty good indicator that you two aren’t as coy in front of us then you thought. ” she said not to be mean or rude just to be honest.
Ellie wasn’t sure what to say to that, she thought they were being so careful not to indulge in each other too much at work or on cases but evidently not. “Jack..It’s the last couple of relationships I’ve had haven’t been the best of endings, after Jake and I divorced because of his cheating and our lack of knowing each other anymore, and with Qasim and how he passed-” she said stifling a sob “I just wanna be careful, I wanna make what I have with Nick last, I love him and I know he loves me he told me first and with his patchwork quilt of a past and my past it’s just…Jack I want to make sure that I don’t lose him. Last case was terrifying, when Vicious pulled the gun on us and I was nearly hit because I was watching Nick not Vicious, I just..I can’t lose him.” she said putting her head in her hands “we wanna tell the team but I feel like for assignments we will be putting a target on our backs more so than before.” she said “I don’t want us to end up the way that Tony and Ziva did, the aftermath for Tony wasn’t pretty..” she said thinking about when she would talk with him about Ziva and how when they found out that he was father in the hardest way, she didn’t want her and Nick to have that same ending.
It wasn’t a shock to her to know that Nick made a lot of enemies and she had a few too, not nearly as many as he did when it came to being undercover but the amount of red on her ledger was considerably less than his. She just put people in jail she didn’t kill a lot of people and if she did she always dwelled on it for way too long. Spending time just thinking about all the loss she had endured between Qasim to Clayton and how the one that would hurt the most would be Nick, she would look over at him at night when they would be at each other’s homes after a case and she would sketch his face into a journal the peacefulness that washed over his face was beautiful to her and something she wanted to store in a special way. Just like how he would take polaroids of her when she wasn’t looking. The pair had their own unique way to keep private moments of each other. Looking back at Jack she said “I just lost a lot of people whom I’ve loved and I couldn’t bare to lose him..”
Jack put her coffee cup down and looked at Ellie “We all are afraid of losing something special and someone who we love deeply but, Ellie living in that fear and that worry isn’t how you live a life without regrets take it from me when you find that person hold onto them and they will hold onto you just as tightly but within reason you know and take it from me sometimes you can find love in the most unlikely of places and people” “Like on a rainy night pretending your car is broken down” she thought to herself before saying “I think you two should tell the team when you both are ready and I have no doubt that they will all support you two.”
“What about Gibbs? He’s like a father figure to me and my-Nick he looks up to him so much..” she said before Jack cut her off.
“Hey! Gibbs is rooting for you two, why do you think he puts you two on assignments all the time, why do you think he put you two undercover and in charge of the baby in our last case, he sees something in the pair of you two, so don’t write him off as the one you have to convince and don’t let that rule of his apply to you two, he’s broken it plenty of times in the past.”
“So you’re saying that Vance is the one we have to convince?”
“I’m saying that you don’t have to convince anyone, Ellie if you love him that’s good, the rest shouldn’t matter.”
Ellie chewed on her lip for a while before seeing Jack’s coffee cup and how it was Gibbs handwriting “Jack..Why is there a morse code for I love you in Gibbs handwriting on your cup?”
“Again he doesn’t listen to the rules he makes up.” Jack said blushing before saying “why were you not a profiler instead of an agent, because that’s a damned good eye you have there, Bishop.”
“I liked facts and figures and sometimes holding a gun isn’t the worst thing and if I wasn’t an agent I couldn’t have met Nick.”
“Not a bad part of the job is it?” Jack said sipping her drink still blushing.
“Not bad at all. So you and Gibbs?” Ellie said raising an eyebrow and taking a bigger bite of the danish.
“Let’s not get into that here..” Jack said “You and Nick should come over to my place tonight and I’ll invite Gibbs too, what do you think?”
“I’d say you have a date, can I tell Nick before we get there so he doesn’t make a scene?”
Jack snorted and shook her head “I think he’ll still make a scene but go for it and Ellie, thank you for not you know freaking out about us.”
“Why would I freak out? I think you’re good for him and he’s really good for you too.”
“The feeling is mutual about you and Nick.”
The pair sat drinking and talking before Ellie was texted to head to her desk that Gibbs was looking for her.
“Well duty calls we might have to rain check tonight.”
“That’s alright sometimes cases get in the way, but definitely soon, I’m holding you to that Bishop”
“Thanks again, Jack, I needed this. Meaning both the talk and the danish.” she said leaving her office to find Nick at the end of the hall by the elevator she walked over to him and said “Hey just so you know we aren’t the only secret romance on the team..” she said in Spanish basically their secret language because not many in the building spoke it and he responded with “what?” in english before looking back to Jack’s office and to Ellie “Jack is with someone!” he said with the usual Torres gusto.
“Shhh she’ll hear you, let’s talk in the elevator” she said before hitting the button.
“So is it Vance or Gibbs?” Torres asked when the elevator opened and Gibbs was standing in it.
Ellie went red and Nick said “what are you doing on this floor, I thought you were on a call”
“I have a meeting with Jack, and shouldn’t you two be at your desks?” Gibbs stated.
“Jack didn’t say she had a meeting after me?” Ellie questioned.
“She made time” Gibbs stated back to Ellie who looked over at Torres and he looked at the floor with his eyes wide in sheer joy for the two of them. “Desks now!”
“On it boss” they both said before stepping in the elevator where Nick rattled off a hundred questions to Ellie who promptly shut him up with a kiss.
episode rewatch the one with Quinn and Bishop heading to Philly, there is a definite Torres and Bishop foreshadowing when Ellie is saying she's not looking to settle down and looks right at Torres
I’ve caught that moment myself and definitely would like to think that was foreshadowing ;)
