Pro Pest Tips: Do you know fire ants both bite and sting?
They will inject through your skin a chemical substance called formic acid. This chemical (as you probably know) burns after the initial bite and sting. They bite onto your skin to get a grip then inject the acid with their stinger. It usually turns red around the bite area and/or forms pustule. This area can become infected if not treated properly. Some people are even allergic to fire ants, which creates a real potential problem. In excessive cases these bites can cause swelling, fever, convulsion, and/or death. But please keep in mind, these are extreme causes. Best to go ahead and take care of these harmful fire ant so you never have to find out your reaction to one.
