Picture a circle, or, more precisely, a disk. The region in a plane bounded by a circle. One has to paint it black. The only thing close at hand is a half-used marker. One could either try color just a quarter of the disk with proper blackness or cover the whole thing with some distant echo of the intended color (which is not a color after all) while marker refill wears. One will pick the second option.
