Thanatos with baby Nico following him around: And there it's where the fields are,that's where the dead people go once they get here. They are different too,we got: the Fields of Asphodel,the Fields of Punishment –those are for bad people– and Elysium,that's for heroes. Do you understand?

Baby Nico nodding at his words: Yes.

Thanatos: Good,good. Now,for the next stop on our tour...mhm..where could I take you...

Baby Nico looking around and noticing Cerberus near them,going to him and leaving Thanatos alone: Big puppy.

Thanatos:..Lord Hades told me to avoid parts that could scare you but...mhmm...maybe here...oh no,it's too close to the pit. Lord Hades won't like that,especially when I have the little prince with me...Oh! Perfect! Young prince we–

Thanatos,realizing he just lost Nico on his first day of being his babysitter:.....Fuck.Ok,ok,don't panic,I can't panic. Everything is fine I just need to find him. It's just a 3 year old,how far could he have gone?

[15 minutes later]

Thanatos totally panicking and stressing over: Ok. Ok this is bad. Where could he even be at this point? I checked everywhere in that palace and he wasn't there! I even asked the others but they didn't see him. Oh,I'm so screwed. Hades will have my head on a golden plate and I can say goodbye to my holiday days,he will kill me with work for this. And I wasn't even able to find his son! WHERE IS HE?

Mewhile Baby Nico happily playing with Cerberus while being oblivious to the chaos and Thanatos yelling: Very big fluffy puppy.

if this is in fact it then I regret to tell you that there's no fic... not one exactly like this, I suppose, because it's just my headcanon based on a specific fic. I can give you that fic though!

Orcus,taking care of a barely 2 years old Nico,grumply: I don't know why our Lord thought I would be fitted for this. This is all Thanato's fault,he should have cleared his schedule fast enough.

Baby Nico looking at him with big watery eyes: P-pa–

Orcus: Wait,you can talk!? I didn't know you could do that!

Baby Nico,focusing on moving his lips for what he wants to do: P-pa–p–

Orcus waiting for him: You can do it,take your time....I guess.

Baby Nico: P-pa–pap–.....Papà!

Orcus: Aww you said your first word! How adorable disturbing you are! Lord Hades will be proud of you once he finds out.

Baby Nico doing grabby hands at him: Papà,papà!

Orcus,poiting at himself: Me? Your....papà?

Baby Nico nodding happily and doing grabby hands at him again: Papà!

Orcus,feeling the dread in his body:.....Oh Shit- No little human being,I'm not your papà. Lord Hades is your papà.

Baby Nico watching him not understanding: Papà? Papà!

Orcus,panicking: No! No papà! Lord Hades papà,me no papà.

Baby Nico watching him silently:

Orcus: You understand now?

Baby Nico:.....Papà!

Orcus,fully panicking now: NO! NO PAPÀ! I'm not papà,why am I papà? Papà is Lord Hades little human being. Not me. If he finds out you called me that and think I'm your dad he will skin me alive. You can't do that to me! And– why the hell am I talking to a baby for this? I get why Thanatos didn't want to take care of you now.

[2 hours later]

Hades,taking baby Nico in his arms: Did my infant son cause you any form of problems?

Orcus,sweating: What? Noooo. The little princeling was an angel. Everything went fine.

Hades,watching him acting strange:

Orcus: Well,then,I still need to do a lot of things in my schedule. Have a nice day,my Lord,little princeling.

Hades looking at Orcus vanishing on the spot: He was acting weird,wasn't he Nico?

Baby Nico:....Papà!

Hades: OH MY ME! YOU TALKED! NICO YOU SAID YOUR FIRST WORD! And it was papà! I'm so proud of you little one.

Baby Nico being happy: Papà,papà,papà!

Mewhile Orcus in his own cave: Fuck,never again. I don't want to do this shit again in my current immortal life. It's more dangerous than going to Tartarus,that child is a demon! He was attempting to kill me on the spot!

[Headcanon]

After Nico got freed from the Jar he and Hazel started to experience separation anxiety when they weren't with each other.

It started small. Nico would walk around on the ship and find a place where he could be alone,Hazel would try to keep an eye on him and search for him after not seeing him for a couple of hours–a strange sense of anxiety following her until she found her brother. The routine continued for a couple of days.

During the journey,if one of them had a nightmare,the other would always be there to placate it. No matter where they were on the ship,they would always find each other. Hazel happens to dream about her mother,long before she was taken under Gaia's influence was still kind to her. She woke up crying with a bittersweet feeling in her and her brother,close to her bed,that was trying to wake her up once he felt there was something wrong. Nico had one of his nightmares about Tartarus,the way he almost died down there and how he got captured by the giants. The fears of the memory made the shadows act up and Hazel was already there trying to calm him down when he woke up.

Then it escalated little by little. When Hazel and Frank needed to go to Venice,Nico went with them not only because he knew the place,but also because he couldn't stand the thought of letting Hazel out of his eyeside when they are in a dangerous place. That's his sister–the one she fought tooths and nails to free him,he isn't letting her go alone. And then she got poisoned,and the god didn't want to help. He got furious and almost went on a rampage because he couldn't bear to lose another sister. Fortunately it went for the best thanks to Frank's involvement. But after that? Nico is always close to Hazel in a fight and on the ship,always checking on her and making sure she is fine.

Hazel started to follow him more,trying to stay close to him after the shock of almost dying and losing her loved ones. Frank already reassured her that it was fine,that the danger had passed and it wouldn't happen again,but she didn't felt that. She started to seek Nico more often because of it,the idea of losing her brother again,after finally finding him,wasn't something she wanted to deal with. They start to spend most of their time together.

The rest of the crew noticed this but they didn't question them,even if some of them were starting to get worried for Hazel. Still it wasn't their place to speak about it and they could recognize the fear of losing the other in the siblings'eyes.

When they arrived at their father's temple and Nico and Hazel had to separate,both of them almost went into an "internal full panic attack" mode because they got separated again and neither of them knew if the other could make it. After all of this time together and now they were both facing an enemy without being able to have the other close. It was only a couple of minutes before they could reunite,but those minutes were hell for them.

Then Nico had to go with Reyna and Hedge on his own side-quest,and Hazel had to be physically restricted from following him. Nico accused the hit later on,when he realized how distant he was from her. His mind went blank and he had to physically force himself to keep going,because he couldn't have an anxiety attack thinking about his sister. He missed his aim when they arrived in Pompeii because of said anxiety attack he tried to prevent–that didn't work well. Reyna saved them for that. Hazel spent the rest of their quest trying to not think much about Nico,because if she did she was going to always be in distress–and a demigod in distress wasn't a good help for her friends. She wasn't successful of course,and she also threw up a lot of time because of the anxiety (outside of her seasickness) and Frank and Percy had to calm her down multiple times.

When they reunited after weeks of not seeing each other? Without knowing if they each survived their own quest? You bet that they stayed attached to the hip for a loooong time they cried as well. They had to physically detach them once the romans had to come back (and their stays got extended a couple of days precisely for them). Nico started to go back and forth between the two camps again not even a full week after they returned to their camp. And when Hazel was finally able to shadow-travel on her own? No one was able to separate them.

Persephone and Hades decided to give them a wing of the palace that they could share and have in common,since their chambers were distant from each other. Nico and Hazel ended up using their shared bedroom and wing a lot more than their own single rooms and chambers,they even started decorating it with their own things after realizing that. Their parents were just happy to help them find a bit of peace (they also booked them a couple of sessions with a therapist so they could work through the trauma-).

Now imagine them during ToA,when the communications were down and they couldn't see each other. The angst>>>>> Ah,underworld siblings,they will never make me hate you.

[Headcanon]

Headcanon that the beings of the Underworld are very possessive and protective of the people that come from the Underworld and since the children of Hades are the only living being in there,they focalize their full attention on them. Nico especially because he accepted them for what they are,instead of being scared or repulsed like everyone else,since the beginning.

For exemple:

Nico is going to Camp Half-blood,after being in Hades's palace for a couple of days,and the souls of the Fields try to stop him because Nico is theirs,the Underworld is his home,and they don't like to share with someone else and want him to stay forever,because to them he is their little precious prince and he needs to stay safe. So every time that he try to leave,he start to wonders why the souls have so many things to complain about,to him,when his father is right there.

Hazel is on a quest with others demigods,(Frank couldn't come because he was busy with a couple of duties,even tho he tried too,but Hazel stopped him) and they need to go in the Underworld. And when they are there,they start to give her not-so-funny comments on her heritage and Cerberus run to her,giving her his full attention,and then start to growl to the other demigods. It's only thank to Hazel that Cerberus don't do anything to them and they are terrified for the rest of the quest,while she's chilling because it's her home,and everyone is happy to see their princess again.

Hades and Persephone are into this too (their relationship with Nico and Hazel start to get better),and when other dieties try to do something against them,they go on full "protective parents mode" and I fear for whatever god tried to harm their children because they aren't coming out of it alive.

Nico waiting in line: This is stupid,I don't even know why dad and Persephone want me to do this.

Thanatos that went with him to make sure he doesn't escape: We already talked about this your highness. Your parents just want you to heal and have a better therapist. Aceso is a very skilled goddess,I'm sure you will be fine.

Nico: If you say so....

Aceso coming out of her office with her previous client: Have a nice day! Oh and remember to do your breathing exercises when you feel nervous. Now,the next one is....Nico di Angelo!

Thanatos literally shoving Nico at her: Here!

Aceso: Thank you...?

Nico: I'll tell dad to fire you and make your eternal life full of pain.

Thanatos: Have a nice chat!

[5 hour later in her studio]

Nico,after telling her about his life: And this is basically what happened....so? How bad is it?

Aceso highly concerned and terrified:....I think we will need more than one goddess of healing to fix this.

Nico: I don't like this.

Aceso: neither do I.

While Will and Nico are similar to Apollo and Hyacinthus,can we all agree that Nico and Hazel are Orpheus and Eurydice? We don't know how Nico brought Hazel back to life,but he probably went the same route as them (not taking into account any privileges he may have as the son of the Lord of the Underworld). Only difference is that they are siblings and not lovers,and Nico is smart enough to not look back during their walk.

And if his son,already sad from the failed attempt of being able to have his bio sister back,want to spare his daughter from an eternity in the Asphodel Fields,who is Hades to interfere in that? He gets 2/3 of his children alive,that's a good number for him. And Nico gets a new sister.

So yes,Nico and Hazel are a re-telling,with a better ending,of Orpheus and Eurydice. Can't change my mind.
