okay okay uhm let’s see how long this gets. so basically, i’ve never read the english version of any of the books ( being a native dutch speaker and growing up on the dutch versions ) BUT what i do recall is that in the books, what happened is that molly hit her with “a green light” that shot beneath her arm and hit her in the chest, followed by her falling and laying unmoving on the floor. followed by the words, but don’t quote me on the exactness of it: “the force of his anger at the death of his last, best lieutenant exploded like a bomb”. which caused a massive wave of anger to flood over the crowd. and which made him turn to molly, having knocked over his opponents, and then harry steps back in like “surprise bish it me”

so yeah, in the movies for some reason they make her explode, which i ?? don’t get. personally, i feel like the message, true evil being defeated that is, will hit much more solidly by seeing their “lifeless” bodies on the floor, power taken away, a concrete proof that they’ve lost. that they are gone.

now as for molly being the one to kill her, i have several objections. none of them have to do with molly, because i love her as a character, i just do think it was a big reach. one reason is: why molly? and yeah i get bella was fighting with her daughter, but again, WHY MOLLY? why not tonks, who’s been mentioned multiple time as having issues with her aunt, being targeted specifically. okay, i get the whole repeating of history, teddy being orphaned, but wouldn’t it be far more beautiful to have it be “what could have happened”, a future they all prevented?

but anyway, if not tonks, why not augusta longbottom? augusta, you say, why her? well she lost her son and daughter in law to this woman, giving augusta a motive. on top of that, neville tells harry that augusta is quite the witch, not to be messed with, managing at her age to knock out an auror and remain free despite deatheaters and such trying to hunt her down. like augusta is an underrated badass!

now number two is purely i guess logical thinking. we’re talking a woman who is shown continuously using household magic, being motherly, having given birth to so many children and looking the part. obviously there is power in the love of a mother, as shown by lily, but is that enough power to defeat a witch highly skilled in combat, able to shake off ( and albeit weak ) cruciatus, taught by an evil wizard, DUELLING three people at the same time with a wand that is NOT her own? how unlikely is that.

so last time i wrote about this, i got told “oh yeah but adrenalin” and i just want to point out that hollywood loves misconceptions about andrenalin. it’s not a magic hormone that makes you a skilled fighter out of nowhere. it makes your blood pump faster, which if you are wounded causes you to bleed out faster. it makes your muscles have a boost, allowing you to RUN AWAY. that is it.

so all in all, what i want to say is that, while i’m sure molly isn’t entirely defenseless, she’s nowhere near as skilled as bellatrix, and the fact that she managed to kill bella was luck, purely.

james would like to say that it’s not his son who caused her heart problems but pureblood incest did that so he legit has nothing to do with this....but also good since if harry needs it and it hurts him that he wasn’t able to give it so he is thankful for molly and arthur. i mean for being good people in general but like also just taking care of his boy.
