These notes are just a hodgepodge from my sketchbook:
Protectorate Security Units ‘Sues’:
Remotely operated by protectorate specialists (fully Autonomous androids are illegal)
Used mainly for search and rescue and disaster response.
Every space station and far Outpost has one unit to handle repairs in dangerous environmets. (Extreme cold, underwater, vacuum etc).
Different models for different purposes.
All have some range of extension and compression on their limbs (the standard model can manipulate it’s extension between 5 and 7 ft tall - this is story relevant!)
Thick, rubbery outer ‘skin’
There is a ludicrous amount of paperwork involved in getting a PSU deployed for combat purposes. Loomis put those rules in place due to concerns about abuse of power and creating impersonal drone-based warefare.
Loomis also set aside a handful for his own protection after the war started.
‘Dog’ units can be piloted, but are the only models with some autonomous capabilities, and are somewhat available for non-protectorate individuals. (Company watchdogs, museum/gallery/embassy security, and commonly used as guide dogs for the blind).
These things solved a major roadblock for me in Act II!
The Atlas soldier was invited to the ball as a guest of honour, but Jax and Delta were already in attendance. He can’t be in two places at once, and everyone from the Atlas outpost is being watched by Priyah’s people.
Birdie is the one to solve the issue. He takes the Atlas armour and fits it to the Outpost’s PSU, then remotely pilots it to the event for the short time he’s required to be there, then bails hard before anyone can get too close.
There’s some tightening to do on everything, but this is a huge step for me in getting things moving again!
