What’s Going On in Nepal? A Deep Dive into the Gen Z Uprising
On September 4, 2025, Nepal’s government shut down 26 major social media platforms—Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, and more. Critics called it censorship, sparking nationwide Gen Z protests.
Protests escalated quickly: tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition were used. Parliament, courts, and politicians’ offices were set on fire, PM K. P. Sharma Oli resigned, and casualties rose.
