Sentinel found them in a village that had been ravaged by the Quintessons. He stumbled upon a small hut and found a dead Fembot, BBB with Cliff hiding behind it. D-16 and Orion are students of the Primes (Megatronus and Alpha Trion) in this AU, so they are not only acquainted with them, but also participated in their upbringing. (Sentinel sometimes asked Dee and Orion to keep an eye on the sparklings.)
In this AU, he was loyal from the start, and he never thought about betraying anyone. The twins consider Airahnida to be the best aunt in the world.
