A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. - Proverbs 13:22
The Proverbs are full of wisdom, but also contrasts. In this verse, believers are told they should leave an inheritance to their offspring—children and grandchildren. In contrast, the sinner loses his wealth and is left with nothing to pass down to his grandchildren. Solomon is reminding us that our reward is meant to be shared, not hoarded.
When we speak of inheritance, we often think of money. However, this proverbs has a much deeper message. We are also encouraged to pass down godly wisdom from one generation to another. If we only leave wealth behind, we miss out on a huge opportunity to impact the future.
What if our children understood that they could keep the inheritance going? They can take the godly wisdom we give them and pass it on as an inheritance to their children and grandchildren as well.
Today, consider whether you are providing both material and spiritual benefits for your children. Be intentional today. It will profit them for eternity. That’s the best inheritance we can offer!
