Proverbs 31:17 (NIV) - She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
“She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.”

Woman, Gird Up Your Loins
Woman, Gird Up Your Loins
Woman, Gird Up Your Loins
Have you ever read a verse over and over and think you get it, but years later you read it again, and BOOM, you see something you had never seen before? This happened to me recently after reading Proverbs 31:17. I have read this section of scripture hundreds of times. I have studied Proverbs 31 in depth and I have meditated on its words. Really, what Christian woman…

I doubt if I would lift a finger, if I could just think about it, and the housework would be done. If I were able to do that, my body would probably fall apart!
HEALTHY
SHE GIRDETH HER LOINS WITH STRENGTH, AND STRENGTHENETH HER ARMS. --Proverbs 31:17
Lord,
This is quite a woman. The picture of discipline right down to the nitty-gritty. She is not only in shape, but works to stay in shape. Not for the purpose of looking good, as most women today strive, but in order to be fit to function.
How many times have I used the excuse, "I'm not strong enough to do that", or, "I don't have the strength to keep up"?
This woman doesn't allow herself any room for defense. In fact, she's ever striving for more strength.
I'm not an authority on physical fitness, but I do know that when I am exercising regularly, it seems like I have more energy. When I'm working out consistently, I begin to look forward to the next session. My mind may want to cop out, but my body really craves exercise.
I believe exercise is part of Your plan for wholeness. It's most likely why You didn't make it possible for me to use my mental powers to accomplish everything. I doubt if I would lift a finger, if I could just think about it, and the housework would be done. If I were able to do that, my body would probably fall apart!
I know when I'm in shape and getting good exercise, I am less prone to illness and disease, because my body is better able to resist.
All I need is the motivation to keep at it. Not to the point of fanaticism, but so that my husband and family will not be ashamed of me and that I will have the strength I need to do my tasks and feel good.
Show me what kind of exercises would do me the most good in the least amount of time. Give me dedication to do them and have strength to spare.
Lord, let me begin to consciously exercise periods of praise everyday until it becomes a natural thing. Open my eyes to the many benefits You have bestowed upon me. Help me to count my blessings each day and find joy and strength as I do...
TIRELESS
SHE GIRDETH HER LOINS WITH STRENGTH, AND STRENGTHENETH HER ARMS. --Proverbs 31:17
Lord,
I confess I get weary, exhausted, and bored...even though I know Your Word says I will renew my strength if I wait upon You. I have never felt I could mount up with wings as an eagle, although it sounds like fun. I don't know if I can comprehend what it would be like to run and not grow weary, or to walk a great distance and not faint from fatigue. If You say it's possible, then it must be. Help my unbelief.
No wonder the virtuous woman can excel at so many things. Not getting tired, I would be able to spend more time working to perfect my skills. Not getting bored, I would be interested in improvement to the degree of persistence necessary. But, how?
The Bible tells me You inhabit, or "live in" the praises of Your people. That means that when I am praising You, You are truly alive in me.
If You are alive in me, then naturally, I am in Your presence. Psalms 16:11 says that in Your presence is fullness of joy. What I see now, is that if I praise You, I will have joy.
Nehemiah 8:10 goes on to tell me that the joy of the Lord is my strength. There appears to be a definite link between joy and strength, in other words, if I praise You, I get joy and strength. Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
But Lord, it isn't always easy to praise You. Sometimes I just don't feel like it. Help me when I don't feel like it, to offer a sacrifice of praise. Webster says a sacrifice is something given up for the sake of another. Let my love for You surpass my unwillingness.
I am seeing that praise is an essential part of my existence. If I want to be virtuous and have unlimited energy, then I must praise You. There's really no other way.
Lord, let me begin to consciously exercise periods of praise everyday until it becomes a natural thing. Open my eyes to the many benefits You have bestowed upon me. Help me to count my blessings each day and find joy and strength as I do.
