I know "wait but what about [x]" is an unfair thing to ask for a book cut down to four issues and clearly doing its best to wrap things up, but I feel I can ask this since it was ACTUALLY introduced in these last four issues
Was this "artifact" meant to like.....be something........
Listen I’m not super for making pre-existing characters into villains but if we were doing Zeo characters why not make Trey a herald of the guy who literally has “The Conqueror” as part of his title. I’ll ride for any kind of Auric rep till I die.
Also I’m sorry I can’t take “spiky Zeo gold” as a serious reinterpretation of the suit. As Potential Suit as night mode is it at least had inspiration behind it
I think the only spikeification I like is the mouthpiece, since I like the little fangs that resemble the fangs of the Legion Ravager.
Everything else is, like I said, basic BOOM additions; you're right that at least Night Mode's design was going for something more unique than additional lines and armor. I saw one person point out that a crown-like crest kind of works for Zeo Gold considering his original Sentai counterpart was literally "KingRanger"....until you remember that in this specific context he's not a king but instead a herald to someone else. oops.
Your Auric idea is interesting but I think I'll be forever asking why we're completely ignoring the Armada, the guys who actually destroyed Andresia, in favor of. worm.
LAST TIME ON POWER RANGERS PRIME: So all the Prime Rangers are just kinda hanging around doing their own thing not really a team yet even after thirteen issues. Your series got cancelled, guys! You have three issues left! Lock tf in! They've been slacking off so much that Trey of Triforia is taking it upon himself to actually move the plot along. Wait, who?
It's Power Rangers Prime #14!
= Rita/Orion is a pair that probably would be more interesting to dive into if we simply had more time (as for one thing this issue still doesn't answer why exactly Orion wants to learn magic) - that's the power of Green/Pink, baby
= Valentina she's clearly trying to ask you out on a date. She's even white and blonde! Just your type!!!!!!
= The Prime Rangers' morph call is so bad it made "Go Go Samurai" sound fresh and unique
= Also idk Valentina morphing just to stop a presumed run of the mill robber doesn't feel very "under wraps" if you know what I mean
= I'd say it's nice that ONE Prime Ranger gets to have a decent resolution to their plotline before the series ends but I still have a hard time believing Mr. Shiba dying isn't a canon event. Sorry man but we have to pretend wanting revenge against the Eltarians is bad so your odds of Redemption Via Heroic Sacrifice are pretty high
= I actually like this design for Jun over his intro arc one, tbh. like idk the buzzcut is more of a unique look than the full head of hair and I always thought his og outfit was kind of silly lmao
= would you still love me if I was a worm about to eat the Earth
= So some lore dumps about the worm, aka the "Legion Ravager." I'll give the book that they're clearly doing their best to set this thing up as a Legit Threat, and again I like that we actually have something of a goal to work towards, but. it's a worm. a worm that we've never had any hint of before. Remember the Beast Brigade? That sure was something that had huge impact on this universe but we never actually did anything with
= And as I've said before, my main worry here is that suddenly we'll reveal that the Eltarians got rid of Rangers NOT because they were threats to Eltarian power over Earth but because they were afraid their use of the Morphin Grid would attract these Ravagers. So we became fascists for A GOOD REASON, we PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to believe that'll be the ONLY reason, especially since the end of the issue will reveal Rita messing up her summoning spell brought the Ravager here rather than the Prime Rangers existing, but idk. I don't trust this book's political commentary after the VR Troopers and how we're clearly setting up a "nooooo don't be so VIOLENT in your revenge plans noooooo" lesson with all the talk of the Shibas wanting to destroy the Eltarians
= Okay for all my apprehension over this plot Trey riding in on his little worm buddy next to the super serious EVIL HAS COME dialogue is so fucking funny and what I come to Power Rangers for
= don't call him a Drakkon clone don't call him a Drakkon clone don't call him a Drakkon cl
= But seriously uh...yeah, what can I say. He's a basic BOOM reimagining where they take a pre-existing suit and add a bunch of lines, armor, and a cloak/cape. Don't really have much to say otherwise, but I guess it should be noted that he seemed to have his original suit in Orion's flashbacks (as his gloves were white) so I guess this new look is the result of Worm Power
= Also was it intentional to bring in two Rangers that have stylized kanji-shaped visors. Let's appropriate Japanese culture together
= Gonna say right off the bat I finished it and went "....so, Melissa watched Fantastic Four: First Steps before writing this, huh?" because how else am I supposed to take Trey of Triforia being the herald of a giant space entity that's consuming worlds for power. The only unique thing is Legion Ravager SEEMS to be a mindless animal but we'll have to see if that's really the case. Also it's a worm.
= Speaking of Trey.......again, never cared about him, so I don't really care about him being turned evil outside of "....so why did we choose to make him evil, exactly? What does Zeo Gold have to do with a worm." And yeah, his design.........well, it's definitely following the BOOM/Prime design rules of taking a preexisting suit and adding a bunch of bells and whistles to it. Stop giving helmets gold crests!!!! They don't look good!!!!!!!!!
= I do like Jayden's civilian design though, a good modern update to him even if I miss the iconic late 2000s boy band 'do
= So is the big question of "why did the Eltarians hunt down and end Rangers" thing really going to be "because they were scared of alerting this worm to the power on Earth" because that's................lame. And giving the Eltarians too good of an excuse to be fascists. Sorry but the worm should eat them idc
= I'll forever be pretty annoyed that the Prime Ranger morph call is "Prime Ranger [Color]." Hearing "Go Go Samurai" was like a breath of fresh air. I remember the Drakkon Rangers' morph call was "Drakkon Ranger [Color]" too so is Melissa just...not good at coming up with morph calls?
= Orion and Rita would probably be a more interesting pair if we had more time put into their relationship (and again, if we actually got a straight answer as to why Orion's learning magic now). Green/Pink always wins sorry!!!!!!!
Sorry for beating a dead horse here but I'm not crazy for thinking the "Teezee shut down after Jun left and Mark has been trying to fix him instead of making other Zords" thing came out of nowhere and contradicted the previous issues right. I guess it's not too much of a stretch to interpret some of these panels as "Mark talks to Teezee even if he can't respond" but at the same time Teezee is clearly awake and active in that last panel especially
They should have let Prime Orion keep the longer hair tbh
Also still have found the Silver Morpher and Key at the very least. It would have been a fun thing to explore of like “well you have this why haven’t you used it?”
this "artifact" he mined probably won't be the Silver Morpher and Key but it should be tbh
and yeah, him having his longer hair would have helped him from looking too similar to Ryan right from the beginning. Considering how dramatically they changed Jayden and Rita's "designs" I think they could have gotten away with letting Orion keep his long hair lol
I can’t believe I’m saying this but this plot line would be great for the Empyreals instead of like. A worm
First time around I was too distracted by the Galactus/Silver Surfer parallels but yeah going back to get pics for the recap I got to these panels and was like wait a minute
Like the Empyreals became their own mess but at least there was an attempt at making them the payoff to prior storylines by them being set into motion by Blue Emissary's death. I guess we'll see whatever origin Prime will give us (since at the very least they'll have to explain what Trey of Triforia of all people is doing with Big Old Worm That Eats Planets) but I doubt they'll be connected to anything previously established. I was kind of hoping they'd just be Trey's fucked up evil Zord, but they're clearly biological. And it's already pretty clear they're not a Beast Brigade weapon or a monster Rita created or summoned from another dimension or whatever, so who knows. It's worm time, baby
