It might be obvious that our favorite thing about motorcycles here at Biltwell is riding and camping with friends. If those motorcycles are at least mildly inappropriate, it makes things more difficult and therefore way more interesting. With that in mind, the concept of Operation Numbnuts was born: Let’s ride bikes to the Arctic Circle, swim in freezing cold water for 30 seconds and then ride home. Of course we aren’t the first idiots to do it, but we’re the first ones we know who’ve tried it on choppers, with a LMTV chase truck lol. Stay tuned for more updates on this as @thejeepcalledyeti and @thewildyolo build the rig and we finish and prep bikes for the trip. We head north in mid-August, but there’s a lot to do between now and then. Alaskan History

This week in Alaska History: On November 16, 1973, Congress passed the Trans Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act. The act cleared the way for construction of an oil pipeline connecting the north slope in Prudhoe Bay to Port Valdez. Construction on the pipeline started March 27, 1975 and took years to complete. This week in Alaskan History: On May 31, 1977, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline construction was complete. Oil discovery in 1968 in Prudhoe Bay provided a need to transport oil safely from the North Slope of Alaska to the Gulf Coast near Valdez. After the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act was signed by President Nixon on November 16, 1973, it took over 4 years and several types of research to build the zigzag line used today.
