jaga jazzist - prungen (live w/britten sinfonia in oslo, norway, 2012)
their live album with britten sinfonia is out NOW on ninja tune. sounds like a can't-miss to me; here's their rendition of the eponymous title track from 2010's 'one armed bandit' for some more assurance. lars horntveth, one of the group's principal songwriters, is currently living in LA, collaborating with teebs and other members of the brainfeeder collective. i believe that jaga are at work on a new studio album at this point as well. all good things. this thoroughly orchestrated release should be more than enough to hold fans over until either of those revelatory musical endeavors come to fruition.
this particular tune reminds me of their 'in the fishtank' collaboration with motorpsycho, especially the swirling, mingus-inspired, prog-jazz tune 'doffen ah um.'
