I am imagining? a scenario where oh, there are?? faes who arrived in the neighborhood? And everyone is like: AHHHH FAES. must gain the faes’ favor! And Bingley-fae is like: weee, humans! humans are fun aren’t they? darcy aren’t humans fun and delightful Darcy, doing the fae equivalent of fake-texting: huh-huh And Darcy can’t wait to go back to the fae court but then oh, a wild elizabeth appears? what is this sorcery. feelings are happening??

And Elizabeth is the human equivalent of a fighting emoji and wow ok being an immortal magic creature isn’t an excuse to be RUDE  and the love declaration of Darcy being like: So against all odds and reason I am in love with you, a human, so far beneath me, it’s really annoying but there we are Elizabeth: i am going to fight u

Also Lady fae Darcy because I’ve always craved an adaptation where Darcy was an prideful lady who seems very arrogant and kind of is but deep down she’s just bad at life

YES EXACTLY. I really look forward to seeing how that first scene resonates the next time I read TWLC--I like feeling conflicted about Nikifor, especially since Vasha is conflicted, so those extreme contrasts right from the start are just going to throw my feelings for a LOOP. EVERYONE 8D (Spoilers: Not actually everyone dies. And there’s minimal death in the third book tbh. But I think about half of the named characters die at some point, so it feels like everyone.)

Maybe there can be a combination of both! I know that some people edit by rewriting the book line-for-line so that they are more inclined to make changes but also take the best from the previous draft.

the thing is, the rewrite i have in mind would involve so many plot/worldbuilding changes that it’s more like... a new first draft than a rewrite of the same book? I’m not quite sure yet

I’ve also done this before - the current version of BT is a complete overhaul from the first draft i wrote years ago. like, so many differences it’s not the same book at all.

I would probably keep some lines and descriptions though, so we’ll see? I’m still undecided but you can all expect to see me whine about this/encourage myself publicly on this blog so stay tuned for more audrey ramblings? = D

1. Describe the plot in 1 sentence.

Armored Soul: Modern-day knight dies, comes back as his suit of armor.

Resonant Frequency: College musician discovers he’s host to an eldritch horror.

Symphony Number Five: Classical composer is commissioned to write her fifth symphony.

4. What’s the time period and location in which the novel takes place?

Armored Soul: It takes place in the equivalent to our modern day. You’ll see cell phones and computers beside swords and shields. The story happens within the boundaries of the Narheimian Empire, a place of high mountains and wide forests.

Resonant Frequency: It takes place in what we’d consider the future. You’ll see humans augmented with biotechnology, lots of green energy sources, and self-driving cars. Very solarpunk! The story happens in the southern coastal country of Barria, known for its stunning ocean vistas.

Symphony Number Five: It takes place in a time analogous to our 1910s-1920s. You’ll see horse-drawn carriages, gas lamps, and lots of turning gears. The story happens in the city of Teplirov, located in a very small, very far northern country called Croynia.

9. What’s the first line of your novel?

Armored Soul: Thanks to his armored helm, Isidor von Brandt smelled his own breath when he exhaled.

Resonant Frequency: Lightning flared, just long enough for the Gestori to see the footprints their subject had left behind.

Symphony Number Five: Evka Sekerak stepped off the sidewalk, nose half-buried in her collar to avoid the stench of factory smoke.
