Oh yes sorry that’s what i meant (taking the screen capture, i only know how to convert the video into frames in PS). If you ever have time do you think you could explain your process of how you use VLC? I have a Mac too, and I’ve literally spent hours on it to no avail. Thanks so much regardless
one quick-and-dirty how i use vlc to take screencaps on a mac tutorial. i hope this makes sense & helps!
go to vlc and open up the preferences:
1. click the video section and then set your preferences for what folder and format you want for your screencaps. only the settings in the yellow box are related to this.
setting the format as png will give you the nicest quality but the pictures will also take up more space than a jpg. the folder is just where all the screencaps you take will be saved.
2. next click on the hotkeys section and set a hotkey so when you hit a certain key, vlc takes a screencap of the frame that’s onscreen. mine is set to ‘s’ (that may be the default? i can’t remember). it’s easiest to make this one key because you’re going to have to repetitively hit it. a lot.
3. then you want to set a hotkey to move the video forward one frame. here’s mine, it’s set to ‘w’.
4. now all you have to do is open up your video. when you get to the part you want to gif, press pause. press ‘s’ to save your first cap, then press ‘w’. the picture should move forward one frame. then you press ‘s’ to save that one, then you advance one frame, etc. etc. etc. until you’ve reached the end of where you want your gif to be.
if everything worked you should now have a whole bunch of photos in whatever folder you designated in step 1.
to load them into photoshop:
note: before loading the caps into photoshop, i take the big mess of photos and split them individual folders for each gif i want to make because i find it much easier.
1. A font you don’t like to use: papyrus should burn in hell
6. A graphic you’re proud of: this is legit the hardest one to answer but, i really like how this one turned out
7. A graphic you didn’t like but posted anyway: i really didn’t like how this turned out
8. List 5 graphic makers you enjoy seeing graphics from: you ofc ( @cruciotus ) i forever fawn over malia’s ( @fleurrdelacour ) edits, jen ( @hermionegrangcr ) and liyah ( @jilys ) for sure. i have also always been the biggest fan of @vitruvians everything they makes could be framed tbh
13. What have you learnt since the beginning of your graphic making?: to have confidence in my edits
14. When did you start making graphics?: oh lord it was like?? three years ago maybe? made this really awful looking alec lightwood edit and it got like 80 notes and i was never the same since that day rip
Hey can you point in a direction for gif tutorials? Im still new at it and i still find the process really tough(i really love how you color your gifs) im sorry if you get asked this a lot and that i have missed it
hey. i’d check out itsphotoshop’s beginner section. or just their tutorials masterpost.
i wish i had some more specific tutorials to link to but i learned how to gif around 2011 and so a lot of the tips i used from other people in fandom are long gone by now.
that being said, following tutorials can be extremely helpful but i learned a lot just by messing around (and messing up a lot).
for instance i’d definitely suggest going through all the adjustment layers until you know what each one can do:
(i do have a tag for answered photoshop questions, but you haven’t missed anything about this in it, so don’t worry)
hey there! I really like the way you make your gifs. You sometimes use transparent patterns (those dots) over your gifs and it looks really nice. If I made gifs, could I do that too? Or wouldn't you be okay with that?
ah! i’m very flattered but i promise you i didn’t invent that or anything. so of course you may.
i personally rather shamelessly stole the idea from one of @sunlitcas’s tutorials, as of for instance.
i really don’t mind photoshop questions but specificity in what exactly you’re looking for makes it so much easier for me to answer them.
someone just asked me “how'd you make your gifs?” and that involves a lot of parts! to make a tutorial which literally covers how i go from the actual video to how i screencap to how to create a gif and then all the steps beyond that i take to edit and color would take me a really long time to make.
hey! do you happen to know the name of the person you use to portray nina in your edits? ♥️
i’ve used quite a lot of different facecasts for nina, is there a specific post you had in mind? i know the most popular model used for nina is barbie ferreira tho :)
How long does it usually take you to make a gifset?❤️
i’m going to give you a very unhelpful answer, which is, it depends.
the last gifs i made, for instance, took me a really long time. hours and hours. mostly because i colored the scene from 11.10 many times over because i wasn’t happy with how it looked.
but if i have a gifset that’s just 1 or 2 gifs where the coloring isn’t driving me crazy, i’d say 30-45 minutes. ish. that’s kind of a guess though because i’m terrible with time! also i’m a perfectionist so i don’t prioritize speed.
(that is just time in photoshop, not getting the video or screenshots, etc.)
