Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord
Sermon Recap
Life is like a song, starting slow and building to a brilliant crescendo.
Our faith walk follows the same rhythm. Psalm 146-150 helps us to visualize that rising crescendo.
This week Pastor Jamie delivers the Sermon breaking down Psalm 150. As we look at Psalm 150, we are to praise God in His Sanctuary, which means we worship together. We come to church to meet the faithful and to worship God together. This is our corporate worship. Verse one continues on to tell us to praise God in His mighty heavens or expanse. Since God is the creator of the universe, that means we are to praise Him everywhere and for everything.
Scripture Focus Psalm 150
The book of Psalms starts with songs of sorrow and lament and builds to songs of joy, thanksgiving, and praise. When we arrive at chapter 150, it’s like the end of a beautiful life, the end of a firework show, the encore performance. We all experience hurt, loss, and sadness, but if we build our foundation on God’s word, we can climb out of those holes stone by stone. Eventually, we find ourselves at the top of the mountain, thanks to our faithful God, and we can’t help but jump for joy and fist-pump the air. This is what Psalm 150 exemplifies. Our excitement in the God who made us, the God of the Universe. The Creator, The Faithful, the Just. The one who sets us free, the Healer. The one who uplifts, loves, guards, and sustains. The one who reigns forever.
The God who created the mighty redwood trees also created the tiny spider. You can worship him through all His beautiful creations, from the tree to the spider. What more motivation should we need to praise him with excitement? With Trumpets, Harps, Strings, and Cymbals clashing. You can’t help but feel excited when the rhythm and intensity of a good song builds. Praise God like this, joyfully, freely, and with excitement.
What if you haven’t praised God like this or feel like you cant?
Like the book of Psalms, the rhythm of life is constantly changing. There are moments of sorrow and lament, and that’s OK. We just can’t stay in those moments forever. We can’t get so caught up in ourselves that we miss the beauty in the things around us.
How do we stop ourselves from getting too distracted by ourselves to praise God as much as He deserves?
Always look for the greatness of God!
God’s greatness can be found in nature, our families, and even in our workplaces. His greatness is EVERYWHERE!!
Talk to God daily, not just on Sunday.
Use Sunday’s service as an overflow of praise that you are giving the other six days of the week.
Give your problems to God and remove the roadblocks to praise.
The focus of our worship should be God, not ourselves.
We need to begin expecting that we take God with us everywhere we go, remembering that we may be the only bit of Jesus that someone might ever experience.
Are you letting the Holy Spirit work through you to express yourself in constant praise to God? As we respond to the truth, we praise God with great joy.
