“Man needs difficulties; they are necessary for health. What concerns us is only an excessive amount of them.”

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.
John Green
I have a couple different colored lighters that I keep on my desk. Each day when I leave for the day's activities, I pick up one of the lighters and put it in my left front pocket. Funny thing is, I don't smoke. Well cigarettes anyway. I bring this lighter with me for two reasons. First: you never know when you're gonna need to set something on fire, and secondly: it aids me in creating a routine so that I don't forget anything in the morning and am on time. Neither seem to be going well. These reasons are though not important nor the reason for me talking with you now. These lighters are as I said different colors. White, black, baby blue, and red. They are all Bic style lighters. In the morning when I choose my lighter, I do just that. I choose, I do not pick randomly. My choice is dependent solely on how I feel the day will go. This is usually determined by the day previous, current knowledge, and general mood waking up. The colors and meanings are listed as follows: Black: My favorite one, well worn with scratches. Almost of out of fuel but still lights consistently. I grab this trusty one when I feel the day will be kind to me. My thoughts will stay free and my soul light. This is the day I'll get the most done. I have the most internal energy. White: My least favorite one, it makes me uneasy. Just the lack of wear, the cleanliness of it. It floods me with memories of hospitals and shrouds me in guilty light. This may seem a bit much to feel about a simple lighter, but it's not just the lighter. It's how I feel my life will change that day. That day I feel weary of anyone, self conscious of my entire existence. Red: The big change. When I moved from my childhood home I carried this lighter every day until I was in my new bed in my new home. The day I took the SAT and the day I applied to college both have this red lighter in common. The red isn't often but it's been recent. Baby Blue: Peace. Assurance, confidence in what lies ahead. The baby blue lighter is about an inch shorter than the other lighters. Which makes its color all the more perfect. It's Little Baby Blue. I say the black one is my favorite because of consistency and my general demeanor. But blue holds a special place in meaning because, I'll choose Baby Blue the day I'm gonna die.
Awesome short film.
